Region issue? (Solved)

Good Morning all. Last night a friend gave me a DVD of an .avi film. Played fine in my PC. When I attempted to play in my Sony DVD player I got the following message:
Playback prohibited by area limitations.
Took the disc opened Shrink>created an ISO>ImgBurn>Burned successfully BUT got the same results. Is this a Region issue...and can it be resolved within Shrink or ImgBurn.
Thanks in advance for any input.

RTM27....yes it is an .avi format. A friend at work says that once it's in an avi format, that Region is not an issue...is that correct?

Yes it is. I have played many DVD's on my Sony with that format.
I was under the impression that if I encoded with Shrink ,that I was changing the format to ISO...( ImgBurn compatable) did I err.

By using shrink to change to iso (a type of file container) only allows for Imgburn to burn to disc. Once burned, the avi's remain the same

Why is avi film on a dvd ? Usually avi's are about 700 Mb.
Soooo, it maybe reverted to dvd (mpeg 2 format) with uops
Soooo I suggest
1) rip disc to HDD with dvdfab HD (free) Should get rid of region coding)
2) use shrink to create iso
3) burn iso to dvd

What is the model number of your player?
99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

OK...I still have the original .avi on my HD. Is there anything I can do using Nero to remedy this situation?

Iluvendo/Dialysis1... Sorry I didn't see your replies before I posted my Nero query. I am at work so off hand can't give you the Sony Model#.
Will give your suggestion ( using DVDFab HD Decrypter 5.0.9.0) first, a shot when I get home.

Iluvendo...just got home and tried your suggestion:DVDFab>Shrink>ImgBurn. But still getting the same Nag from stand alone player. Oh well, just have to write it off to one of those things ...but thanks again ALL.

If the files are avi, why not convert them to dvd compliant files. Can't remember what to use on nero, but I know dvd flick can convert them to dvd files.

Dvd Flick does a good job, and it's a freeware.

Seeeing as how I started this thread I feel compelled to end it.
Problem solved...won't bore you with the details...basically when my friend created the DVD/.avi file using Nero, he accidentally ignored the warning and file was created in PAL instead of NTSC..hence the Nag from my Sony.
Burned another disc using new file and all is well.
