Others may disagree, but IMHO, desoldering braid should not be used to remove a solder bridge unless you don't care about the IC working afterward. The amount of heat that you may need to apply may permanently damage the IC since you need to hearthe braid as well as the solder.

Get a desoldering punp or "solder sucker". You only need to heat the solder until it melts and then it can be reoved cleanly.

Desoldering braid is fine. Those ICs can take some heat. During the reflow process, they can withstand temperatures of over 800 degrees.

I am an experienced electronics tech and I have been using braid for years with no ICs damaged. Solder pumps are great for removing solder from through holes, braid is better for IC pins.

When you use the braid, make sure your reflow your legs. If you remove all of the solder from the pad and pin, you may leave it "open", meaning, you'll remove the solder from the connection completely. Adding a little flux and solder will unsure you have a solid solder joint. Check that when you're done reflowing the joint, that the joint is shiny and check your soldering with a multimeter to make sure the short or bridge is gone.

Hope this helps!

I do exactly as Stabby has said with all my Wii mods. Just apply a little soldering flux on the IC legs and braid, heat with a 15w iron, when you see a little smoke and solder on the braid then pull out. Make sure to pull out the braid and tip of the iron together at the same time so that the braid does not get stuck in there. That would be a mess...
