i've tried for days to connect my psp to my pc.. but none of the
thread help.. so i figured this out my self.. no help from anyone... i've posted this to help the many people who had to go through the same shit...

Here's the solution.. the psp usb cable you have is rubbish...
throw it away.. i used an old motorola v360 usb to data cable and it works 100%.. trust me. the cable fits pefectly into the psp.

There are 2 kinds of cables with the same small plug on the end.. one is usb and the other is dv... They are wired differently internally. The DV cables are usually a silver colour and often have instruction labels stuck to them about installing the drivers BEFORE connecting the cable.
