I was wondering if this problem was ever fixed because I have the same problem. I have now bought a DVD RW disk so I can play without making any more coffee coasters, but I have a couple of questions. DVD Shrink makes my 4.5gig copy, but the sound is gone....somtimes! IM working on this. At least I have a picture. But thats a small problem because I can now burn a disk that will play on the PC but all my DVD players wont look at it. Is this typical.

And one last for the moment, should Nero make a video_ts folder? Because it doesnt and all I do is drag shrinks folder over and burn it? Is there a need for a Video_ts or can the files be on the root? Ive heeded scuberpete advise and dont use the wizard....thats got rid of my blank burns, or it might be Im using a RW?

stidemon,
You need to update your Nero to a version that has the drivers that support your burner.
I would use the Nero clean tool and completely remove your 6.0.0.0 and install version 6.3.0.3.

Clean tool:

http://www.nero.com/en/631938347293151.html

Download Nero 6:

http://www.nero.com/us/download_nero.php?pak=1

mickguk,
Its a lot easier to respond to posts if they are not at the end of a two page reply.
Right click on the Shrink 3.1.5 preview window and preview the audio tracks. When you select the correct track and hear the audio you want, make sure the correct box is checked, the one that corresponds to the one you previewed.
Once you get the audio problems sorted out and you can burn playable RW discs that work in your computer, try a -R and see if that will play in your DVD player. You should find out what the compatible media format is for your players. RW will not work in some players although it works in both of mine (cheap Emerson and PS2).

I would suggest to both of you that the best way to use Shrink and Nero is using the auto burn function. Shrink 3.1.5 is considered the stable version by the guy who created it, Mr. Shrink himself. Use that version unless you are using a Pioneer 120 ROM.
Many Nero problems can be cured by keeping an up to date, legal version installed. If you don't own it, then buy it. Nero has a good service and support center that can really help with deciphering problems like stidemon's.

By using the Auto burn you can avoid set-up problems with Nero. Shrink 3.1.5 does all that for you.

Read the guides for the programs you are using. Follow them step by step. Make a copy or have some good notes in front of you when you are using the programs.
Programs like Shrink 3.1.5 and Nero Burning ROM have options that allow you to tailor your set-ups to do a variety of things.
You must use the right set-up for each particular application.
Don't have a bunch of other applications running when working with these programs.
Stidemon, I noticed your memory usage was a lot higher than mine, I used 37% on my last burn according to my Nero log.

Use good equipment and take care of it. Defrag and do all the other normal maintenance that a system needs to stay healthy.
Take your case cover off and make sure your system isn't full of dust, blow your CPU and case fan with canned air, Don't let the fans spin when doing this.
Be careful inside your computer, don't touch the circuit boards without taking precautions against static electricity. Don't knock any connectors loose.

Use only high quality blank media and clean and inspect your movies before burning them, this avoids cyclic redundancy errors, pixelation and freezing.

Cheers,
Frank

Thanks dude - used shrink for the whole process, and didnt re author this time . ... went for the whole disk ran it automatically and just backed up the disk. Hey presto it works. But I did use a DVD RW - tried it with a DVD R and it works on the pc but not in the DVD home players. Poor quality disk I suspect. I used a version of Nero that came with the writer and it worked fine. Thanks for the help.

Hi again,
you can go here: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.php and check your player for media compatability. All you need is the make and model number.
Have you read the guides that are avalible?

Heres Oriphus's guides:

http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/user_guides.htm

Heres ddlooping's interactive guides:

http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php

These sites are always fun to go look at, I have both in my favorites list.

stidemon,

I don't know how it can be the burner -
Burning digital files, they should be all the same -

I always leave the ACS 2 and the 5.1 sound tracks.

What is the name of your DVD ?

Question: Are you using Nero to burn to your DVD's OR are you letting DVD Shrink do it's "auto-burn" ?

Pete

mickguk,

The quality we're looking for is Ritek G04 or Verbatim :-)
Excellent media, that :D

Hi stidemon,
First congratulations! Even if you didn't get any audio you still managed to get a disc that would play. Now its just a matter of getting the bugs out.

Put your burned disc in your computer and use Shrink "open disc". Once it opens, on the right side under compression settings, what does it say under "Audio"?

Next, select Edit> Preferences> Stream Selection tab.
What does it say under Audio languages and coding type?

Your audio tracks are multiplexed in with your Video files so whatever was selected in Shrink should still be there. Your playback equipment may not be able to play the selected format.

Remember that by checking a box in the audio and sub-picture menu you are selecting this to be on your disc, not removing it. I suspect you did have the boxes checked but I have to be sure.

There is no reason to leave all the audio and sub-pictures on your DVD. For better compression rates, try unchecking all the sub-picture boxes.
Preview your audio by right clicking on the Shrink preview window and selecting audio from the menu. This will let you select the correct audio track by listening to it and then checking the box corresponding to the desired track.

Cheers,
Frank

I previewed the audio like you said and its all there and works fine. Once i burn it tho, there is no sound. i have the 5.1 sound selected and i could even switch to the other sound cuz i left it checked since the rate was 100% on the disk. what could i be doing wrong?

stidemon,

When you're playing it have you gone into audio to change tracks or tried to go into menus and select "root menu" to see if the audio is there ???

Just a thought, it happened to me once, I had to go in and select root menu, to this day I'm not sure why but - no Biggie_ :-)
