Can Anyone help please? I have just rebuilt my pc but before I activated xp I deveided to try playing back my dvds to test all was working, I have also power dvd xp installed , The movies have always played back fine in both power dvd and windows media player 9 no problems until now, I checked dma enabled and error correction etc , nero 6 is installed and aspi is working ok, however when dvd is inserted in pc it asks which player so I selected wmp9 it opens up but instead of playing menus or playing the dvd it starts travelling down the chapters one by one about 3secs between each chapter no video just orange exclamations as the bar travels down the column , , ive tried reinstall of the players codecs too no joy , can anyone suggest the problem might be? and hopefully a fix thanks
Not to harp on about un-installing but did you run a cleaner afterwards? and did you make a full pc restart?
With wmp click on synch then refresh devices then click on synch again and check the file type tab. Tick the appropriate box there.
With power dvd, wander through the settings for similar. Please note that there can be only one preferred player set to file types, otherwise your system may "hang" while trying to deliberate "who plays what".
My personal input would be to stick with Cyberlinks Power DVD. I just found it to be a little less "finicky" than wmp.

VLC is a dandy.
These are my choices:
Music only: WMP 11
Pictures: Faststone Image Viewer. Free. Simple edit, resize, rename, will send to full fledged image editor like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, screen grab, email, crop to list of preset photo sizes or freehand, print (even to .pdf), and may more features. But simply the best viewer around. I hate to sound all "gushy", but it's one of the indispensible apps on my machine.

What i like about VLC is that it uses it's own codecs and therefore can play various file types with no hassle.
For Music i use Foobar. It's lightweight, and easy to use.
I'll have to try Flagstone and Mpcstar. See if they're every bit as magical as you say. ;) Hehe.
