Hi,

I'm quite new to the whole Wii modchipping game and just wondered if someone could give me a few do's and donts?

A couple of questions:

1) What is wii bricking and when burning games should I be patching them first? I use IMG Burn at x2 speed with Verbatim -R discs and so far so good.

2) I've heard that you should never accept an update via a backup game is this true?

Reason being, I have backed up copy of 'Order Up' and when I start it, it states I need to update first. I was told to take the game out and put an official Wii game in, then perform a system update via the Wii menu - however I have the latest software (V3.3E) installed?

Will it damage my Wii if I accept it?

I download my backup's from ESPALWII.com and so far had no problems, only with the later games.

If anyone has any other tips, it would be grately appreciated,

Regards,

Steve

Thanks Larry.

I apologise for the post, as after I posted it, I found everything I was looking for on that thread and also read how annoyed senior members get when newbies don't look properly.

Sorry.

I have now seemed to come to grips with the wii bricking etc and I'm now using a tool called wiibrickblocker, which works fantastically on the NTSC games in my pal system - however Order Up seems to be freezing and loading really slow - is this a common occurence with cross region games?

Looking at the wiibrickblocker software it does not seem to have an update option - does that matter?

i.e. for newly released NTSC wii games will the old blocker still work, or do I have to keep checking for updated version manually?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve, (and anybody else)

I am also a newbie, but I couldn't find the answer in the sticky thread. Do you have any info on this matter ?

Thanks.

There is nothing wrong with updates. They have and probably will never affect modchips. The only updates which affect modchips are hardware revisions such as D2C and D2E.

Updates can affect homebrew though. As that is a software.

And bricking your wii is only when its from another region.

Anytime you have a PAL (er. In your case NTSC) game DO NOT UPDATE. I suggest you constantly update your wii manually so that PAL games won't ask for an update but in any case always brickblock.

Unless of course you want to semi-brick your wii and than use an update disk and hope to god that the update disk is a newer update.
