xbox360 disc reading problems

hi,i have a modded 360 which is about 10 months old,the problem is it has become very temperamental in reading backup and original discs .i have managed through sheer determination and patience to get it to read a cd lens cleaner and ran the cleaner through it 3 or 4 times,though it seems to have had little or no effect.i'm debating whether to open up the 360 and physically clean the lens ,though this is probely easier said than done.not sure what else it could be,could it be a damaged reader?
any views much appreciated

im having the same issue and got it to work for a bit by adjusting the pot (google it)

But i just ordered a new lens and will let you know how it work

yeah,if after you've tried cleaning and adjusting it, it still doesn't work your best shot is to get a new laser.

had a look at adjusting the pot and it seems a bit beyond my capabilities ,i am now looking at getting a new laser and thinking of having a go at fitting that.are the copied parts as good as the original?
