Trying to replace Dvdrom

ok -i opened my 360,,i downloaded slax image thru textbook,,but it is a alpha version which i think might not be safe,,so i went to there website and grab there latest version--v 6.0.7...
textbook Tutorial-
where it say provide true ground for the 360 and pc,,would taking the 360 grey left side and line it up next to my pc with the cover off work....i'am being a noob on it-i know!
my pc has sata ports that looks like the ones in the tutorial,,but do i need a additional sata cable or i can use the one connected 2 the 360 motherboard and the dvdrom drive?
also after i get it in mobe b can i let it sit there while i continue 2 read on about flashing it...it wont rush me...?
i also downloaded ixtreme 1.4 from xbins and it sames to be the latest on there,anyway i read other members post about this and want 2 confirm 1 more time...i interested in playing some backups online which would be stealth patched,,is this the best way 2 go..i know it doesn't prevent getting ban...

for the ground, as long as you computer case is metal just have the metal part of the xbox 360 touching your computer case. you should be able to use the sata cable in the xbox 360,mode b isn't going to rush you, so take your time and be careful, and last you don't have to worry at all about playing online as long as the games are stealth patched, i have a bunch of online backed up games that i have played many times, and have not been banned yet, so you really dont have anything to worry about as long as their patched with stealth. hope this helps.

now that i opened my 360
most of the time my dvd-rom drive stays close but it just wont read,,like unplayable disc even with original games and dvd movies and if it does read i get this loud spinning noise like the disc is being scratch up or its nocking against something,might be the laser or the spindle..
1.will i still be able to put this in mode b and have it flash?do u think it might slightly bring my dvd-rom back 2 life...
2.when buying a dvd-rom drive,,do i buy the exact same model?
3.i have a ati sata cable in my desktop hooked up from the desktop hard-drive to the desktop sata port,,i can dis-connect the hard-drive cable and plug it in the xbox 360 dvd-rom and it functions normal--but i still would need a next ati sata cable to run in the hard-drive...
-so just go to the electronic store and ask for the same ati sata cable right?
now that this will be going on 2 the final stage,,i just want 2 be safe and sure straight thru to the end..

When loading the iExtreme hacked firmware you get read speed choices. Selecting (I think 8X) would slow the read speed down a little and you could possibly get less read errors. The downside is your load times will take longer but their isn't that much of a difference.
As to the sata cable hooked up between your PC and HDD. When flashing the Xbox 360 drive you will want all other DVD/HDD drives disconnected in your PC so there is no conflict between the Xbox 360 drive and other drives in the PC. So you do not need to have the HDD hooked up when flashing the Xbox 360 drive. Just plug the Sata cable that was in HDD into the Xbox 360 drive.
The USB boot drive you created will boot the PC and run all applications that are needed.
After you are done flashing the Xbox 360 drive connect all hardware again in your PC.

i understand what your saying,,but dont i need the hard-drive plugged up so i can get into windows and finish the flashing or are u saying just have the 360 drive hooked up and get it in b mode after that how would i get into windows?

Dosen't the guide give you a choice to do it via USB, floppy or CD? You only use winsdows to create whatever boot device your going to use to flash the drive.
You then use that to boot the computer to flash the Xbox 360 drive.

you create the USB boot drive if you are flashing the samsung or the benq. The hitachi is a different flashing process, in that it takes place in windows

I have never flashed a hitachi. So if that is what ya have then ignore what I said.

my drive is up and working again through the magnet trick i saw on youtube..i think this will hold up pretty good until my drive arrives/because its easy to do and i think the only problem is that the xbox360 is open...but hey-just until my drive arrives..
i was told-
Any Hitachi will do, Since you have a mechanical problem with the drive you are going to take the circuit board from the bad drive and place it into the new drive you order.
OR
You can read the key off of your current drive and place that key into ANY Xbox 360 drive and it will work in your system...
1.is this true that any Hitachi will do.. instead of just looking for the exact model 78FK?
2.(A)will it be ok to flash my drive now and when the new one arrives will it still be safe to put the board from the old drive and place it in the new drive..
2.(B)or must i keep the bad drive with it's original firmware,,then place the board in the new one,,then flash that...?
3.will it still be in the flashed state if i go with method 2(A) and placing that board in the new drive?
