Can anyone identify this Wii mod chip and whether it is upgradeable?

It's just a regular 12f629 PIC chip. It could be programmed with any code like YAOSM, WiiFree, etc. It's best to just ask the modder what he flashed the PIC with.

I bought the wii used and couldn't get any info about the chip or the person who modded it (modded around summer 2007).Can I try updates from different chips or could this cause problems?Can these chips be reprogrammed and how?Or do I need to replace the chip?I can't play newer games (001 error). Thanks

Updates from different modchips won't work.

Heres a site on how to install a new firmware onto that chip, but you'll have to build a programmer for it. http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php?t...rogramming_info

You might be better off just replacing the chip with a wiikey.
