hi just flashed my samsung drive ms28 it has got ixtreme 1.4 on it after flashing i tried my legally backup of gta and just says unreadbale disk and the drive is really loud it wont play the game i know the game ok becuase tried on another console with same firmware but the drive i flashed does play originals fine so not a key issue just wondered if anyone had any ideas thanks

I would make sure you actually flashed it.

Try following a guide strictly on making a backup.

yes the copy i have got works it works on all my other xboxs just this was strugles to read it and says dirty disk all the time maybe dvd drive is on way out

That's a tough call. If the laser was on it's way out then wouldn't it give you problems on your retail games and not just this one?

Maybe it's bad media? What disks are you using?
Maybe it's a drive speed issue? Did you flash it at 12x or did you go slower? I've heard of people having problems with GTA4 that had slower drive speeds.

tried it at 2x and 12x times with ixtreme no luck i am just going tom flash a ms25 with same firmware see if thats ok then i porb know its either dvd or something else

yeah, you are pretty much looking at one of three options causing it to happen.

1. Bad media or bad burn (make sure it works in someone else's flashed console and make sure the backup is on a verb disc)
2. Bad flash - just reflash it again
3. Your dvd drive/laser is dying and you would need to replace it.

Just do a process of elimination and see if you can fix it.

hi well the same firmware worked on the ms25 dvd drive and played backups no problem i have tried again a few times on the ms28 to read them but no luck once managed to load game up but got stuck on titles so i think it must be the lens any thoughts

If you can find an inexpensive replacement laser then I would get it and repair the drive and have a back up for when the other one craps out.

Just wondering, do you know that the ms25 and ms28 have to be modded differently? Also, when it's modded, you will want to keep it at 12x, just so that the media will be read!

I've had trouble with drives under 12x, so I would stick with 12x.

yes you dont have to have a 10 seconds delay whe flashing ms25 it flashes ok all 4 banks fine plays originals fine but for some reason sticks on credits on backup games so the firmware is redaing the backups but it sticks so must be lens i think it just says unrecognised disk but backyp works on all the other ones i have done
