PSP ISO/CSO Requisites

I was reading some articles on the internet about playing ISOs/CSOs on a PSP and discovered that some said you should have a UMD inserted to be able to play the ISOs. I have searched aD and stumbled upon some older threads that said the same, but were dated from one or two years ago. Is this still the case? Have the newer CFWs changed this? I ask all this because my UMD drive fails to read any discs. Thanks to those that help in advance.

i have a PSP Slim... i definitely don't need a UMD inserted and that's a good thing cause i don't even own a single UMD...

Many thanks for answering my question. I ordered a Pandora Kit and got curious if I was to be under the circumstances of that problem. No need to worry now, though.
