Hi, I just ordered a samsung ms28 to replace my current one since its slowly dying, I've heard I need to somehow get a drive key off my current drive & inject it into the new one I'm ordering before it would work?? If anyone could give any advice/tips/links to guides about this it would be very much appreciated please. Thanks in advance!

Me too... I've had a 360 sitting in pieces in my workshop -- because I haven't been able to find a definate TUT to fit my situtation ~ I have a dead SAM/TOSH TS-H943 and want to replace it with a bENQ drive. My problem is I want to do it WITHOUT the ixterme FW. So I'm trying to move the key from the H943 to the bENQ drive while keep ing the firmware UN-MODDED.

I have read the FW from the H943 and have the key -- I just cannot seem to inject the key into the bENQ FW without making it ixtreme. I must be missing something really simple... and I've been searching all over and cannot find a step-by-step guide.

~Anyone??

This thread should help you guys out.
I recently replaced a knackered hitachi drive using this method that a kind man posted for me.

If you ordered a Sam MS28 and your old one is a Sam MS28, then just swap the board inside the drives. Put your old board in the new drive.

~Unforunatly that TUT inserts the ixtreme firmware -- there are guides all over for this -- which is great... but I am having a hard time just spoofing from the H943 to a bENQ drive. All the TUTs I've seen use Xtreme boot maker (requires ixtreme) or iPREP (requires ixterme). I just want to MTKFLASH from the H943, and inject my key into the BENQ drive... Seems too easy.... Any ideas?

Can't you just dump the original firmware from the BenQ.
Insert the other dvd drive key into that firmware.
Rename the firmware and put it in the correct place on your memory stick.
Then flash the BenQ with the original renamed firmware that has the new dvd drive key?

XBOX Halo Ed. = DuoX2 w/250gb HD
Xbox 360 Red Elite 120GB HDD = no-stealth 1.6 & XBReboot V3 & 1TB usb hdd
PS2 Slim = freemcboot v1.8 - PSP Black Slim = 5.00m33-6
Wii = w/ Blue XCM ii-case, Wiikey2 & softmodded

The only way to spoof one drive as another is to use hacked firmware. And that would be the iXtreme.

ahhh... If bhetrick is correct -- that would explain why I've been going in circles. It seems to be too easy just to insert the H943 key into the bENQ orig.bin and reflash. So, this is true... You cannot replace a DVD drive without making it ixtreme???
