Hello,

I tried searching for this but could not find anything specific to the wiikey, as I do not want to risk getting my system bricked.

What is the best way for me to play WAD games on the wii that I have on my PC (Metroid 9, Super Dodge Ball etc)

I just recently set up my wireless connection to my wii...

I am running 1.9s for my wiikey and 3.1U for the wii (is it ok to update firmware for the wii through the net?)

If anyone can point me in the right direction at all I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

Installing wads is not specific to chips, you dont even need a modchip to do it. Just the homebrew channel.

You install them via the wad manager on the homebrew channel.

You can safely update online, however since you have 3.1 currently I would advise installing homebrew channel before updating. Currently you can use the iso installer, which is simpler than installing it via the twilight hack. But even doing it with the hack really isnt that hard to figure out.

I am assuming the homebrew channel is easy to get? Do I just access it through the channels on my wii menu?

Once that is all installed, how to i get the wad files from my computer to the wii.. can i use a flash drive?

Thanks ahead of time

It is a very simple process.

You can get The Homebrew Channel HERE (use the ISO self booting disc since you have 3.1 firmware). It will install The Homebrew Channel to the Wii menu.

After that go HERE and download WADManager. Make a new folder named WAD Installer. Extract the WAD-Manager_1.21.dol file into the newly created folder.

Rename the WAD-Manager_1.21.dol file to boot.dol

Now on the root of the SD card make a folder named apps and place the WADManger folder into the apps folder on the SD card.

Create a folder on the root of the SD card named wad and place the wad files inside that folder.

Now place the SD Card in the Wii launch The Homebrew Channel and the WAD manager will be in the list of applications to launch.

Now follow the on screen directions the application gives you to install uninstall the WAD files.

Not really hard at all if you follow the directions I gave above.

Works great, until I want to install a wad-file... I get an error code (ret -1020)... I've tried several wad's, all the same code...

Any ideas?

I have the same problem. Firmware is 3.4 pal. installed the correct homebrew channel, running wad mananger 1.3 from a formatted SD card, seem to work OK. Try to install on of the .WAD files and I just get error 1020. Anyone got any ideas?

If your on 3.4 you need to go HERE and follow this guide. Since you already have the Homebrew Channel installed you only need to follow the section under Wii Fix Guide (don't forget to download the files under what you need section).
