Ok guys I have a modded 360 has been working fine till about a month ago and I got the 3 rings of death.

I went on line and found out how to fix this, I replaced the xclamps with bolts, washers and a screws. Oh I did use the nylon washers next to the mother board. I cleaned the heat sinks off use heat sink compound cleaner then I used the artic 3 heats shrink paste and reinstalled everything. Then I did the baker mod I think it was called where you over heated the Xbox to melt the heat sink past. Xbox worked great.

Well after about a week I got the 3 rings back. Well I started looking again and found an article that said the bolts for the heat sinks had to be really tight. So I disassembled everything again and redone everything and this time make sure the nuts were really tight on the heat sinks, Worked great.

Now I Have the 3 rings again I am at a lost as to what to try now. Any tips or ideas would be great.

Any fix out there for the 360 is only temperary. For some it may last months, others hours. The only real fix is to send it in to MS so they can replace the board.

Search on YouTube for the penny fix. There's a couple good vids.

Its really not worth all the pain and hassle of trying fix the system for a few more plays. Just call M$ and get it over with. They repair red ring for free but the down side is it will take 2 weeks. The way I figure it is that thats about how long ur system will last n e ways with the *penny trick* so why not bite the bullet.

With the money, parts, time, hassle, etc. spent trying to repair the 360, you could have just gotten a warranty sticker off eBay quicker and cheaper.

If that's what's holding you back from sending it in, of course.

Haha ya trust bhetrick its not worth the time bro. Although I will warn you that if your system is modded and you send it in. You will be geting back a brand new Lite-on which isnt moddable. So your stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Yeah, that's true, the Lite On isn't able to be flashed. That could be a problem for some. Me; I'd take the new mobo/Lite On over any clamp fix. I'd just pick up a different drive and swap out the Lite On.

But that's me. Swapping drives isn't a problem. You'll just have to decide which is the lesser of two evils and go that route.

I have an XBOX360 purchase 11/2006. Flashed DVD drive is Toshiba/Samsung TS-H943A. If I read correctly above, would I be able to purchase the cheapest XBOX360 (Arcade), switch out the DVD drive, and everything would still run properly?? Also, are the newer 360's free from 3RROD?? Thanks in advance!

You're saying you intention is that you want to play backups on a new, cooler running 360?

If so, then yes, basically you can use your Samsung in the new Arcade. Make sure you read up about getting the key from the Lite On before you just run out and get a new 360. There are plenty of tuts out there for getting the key.
