Hi, I'm semi new to the forums and am about ready to purchase a 360 with a 60gb hard drive, but I have one question before I do so. I tried searching for an answer but it doesn't seem to do me a whole lot of good for some reason.
Right now all I have for a tv is actually an lcd computer monitor that takes DVI or VGA. I bought a PS3 a few years ago to use with this monitor but I ran into a snag. The PS3 only used hdmi or its standard cables that it came packaged with, but I remedied the problem by buying an HDMI to DVI cable, solving the video problem. What came next was an audio problem. DVI does not transfer audio so I had to find a way to use the standard L/R RCA cables and combine them into one and used an appropriate jack for the monitor to transfer the audio. It works. So, my question is, can the 360 do this as well?
New news: I bought the 360 and the hdmi-dvi cable works fine, just like it did with the PS3. However, there is still the audio problem. What's even weirder which I didn't know about til now is that I can't seem to plug in the A/V cable that comes with it and the HDMI-DVI cable at the same time, the A/V cable is just too large. Now I'm at a new loss.
I think I see what you are saying. If I buy a regular hdmi cable that also comes with the audio adapter, I can also use that dvi adapter and still retain the sound? Is that what you're saying? Because if it is, I think you may have saved me.
