I used my onboard nForce controller to flash my BenQ with no troubles. I'm about to attempt a Hitachi and was wondering if any drive models will only work with a Via controller or vice versa.

I don't think you should have a problem flashing the Hitachi Drives with the nForce controller that you have! I mean, if it doesn't work, the VIA Controller is only like $15 on newegg.com.

yeah worst case, you might as well just try to flash it with the nForce controller. What's the worst, it won't flash? If not, then get the via controller.
