A friend of mine told me he knows someone that has a 40gig ps3 version and it is backwards compatible. I spoke to that guy yesterday and he said he has the 20gig version (which I never knew existed) and he said he downloaded some software that made it read the ps1 and ps2 games.

Ok if he is talking s##t is there software out there that can make the 40gig version backwards compatible?

Basically, the guy said he had a 20GB PS3, and that one does play PS1 and PS2 games.

There's no download to make any PS3 backwards compatible if it isn't already. (Excluding the 2.50 update, but that's just a rumor; don't take my word on that.)

So to answer your question, no, there's no software that can make the 40GB backwards compatible. What he told you about downloading some software was probably him mistaking the firmware updates (which only fixed some emulation issues) with some sort of software.

My sons got the 40 gig version and yes doesn?t play ps2 games I find it amazing it can play ps1 games but not ps2 only hope is a firmware update that will allow ps2 games to be played fingers crossed but don?t hold your breath :(

People say that through updating firmware, you won't be able to get PS2 b/c so don't get your hopes up. One question - Why would you play PS2 games on a PS3 when you probably have a PS2? I heard that playing PS2/1 games on a PS3 will give you rubbish quality.

Also how many consol's can you have set up at the sane time haven't got the room don't live in a mansion
