You need to find out which drive like the poster said above. Assuming it is a flashable drive, I would just go with the most up to date ixtreme

use this guide

http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/man...box_360_dvd.htm

remove the faceplate and peak through hole #3... if you see yellow wires its liteon and you won't be able to hack it yourself...

it entails finding a person who you can pay to do it for you. they need the hardware to extract the key off the lite-on drive and write it to another drive you supply...

the liteon drive itself is basically useless cause they made the firmware readonly... which is why you have to buy another drive.

i'd start looking for someone in your country who offers this service...

Exactly what he said ^^. You can't really do anything with liteon except hope you can get in contact with someone who can swap it out with another drive that you can flash. Sorry man...

well i'll tell ya i'm aware of this situation cause i'm actually going through it myself. only difference is that i knew when i bought the xbox that it was likely going to be a liteon drive.

i'm in the U.S. and there are a number of listings on craigslist for people providing this service... however at a premium compared to a regular xbox firmware install. i wasn't comfortable with them though cause it seems impossible to check out how reputable they are...

thankfully i found a place that seems to have a good reputation but beware that this isn't a cheap thing .. the expenses for me::

$40 for brand new samsung xbox replacement drive + shipping
$60 for liteon drive swap service + FW install + return shipping
$20 for shipping to the guy doing it

so in total $120 ...

I didn?t know this so all new Xbox?s have the liteon drive and the only way is change the drive my sons friend?s Xbox died of death and was going to chuck it in the bin and buy another 1 so could you just take the drive out and put it in the new Xbox and away you go they did fix the overheating problems with the new consoles didn?t they?

no way it would work like that... it wouldn't even be that simple if the drive wasn't lite-on...

regarding RRoD from what i heard the consoles manufactured after november 2007 have that issue fixed ... but i have no idea if thats true...

really the bigger issue for me is the liteon drive... but thankfully mine is on its way via UPS to the guy doing my drive swap !!

he reads the key from your drive, and flashes it to a new drive so it will work.

the best is ixtreme 1.4 but i would wait until after the new dash update if you are doing it for the first time, rumor has it v.15 is on its way soon.

hrmm.. none ?? i dunno what you mean by batch but going by lot #'s you need to go back many lot #'s to find ones that come with BENQ drives...

any lot #'s with manufacturing dates prior to april 2008 may have benq... but nothing recently will... it's all liteon.

what ya need to do is find a store that sells xbox but doesn't sell a lot of them... so they would still have stock from months ago...

this site is helpful too::

i was referring to the recent system with board/cell revision, the ones that suppose to be free of the ring of death plague.
