i have 2 wii's in 2 different rooms. i want to mod one of them to play backups so that we can play multiplayer games on different systems together without buying a second copy of the game.
i am a novice when it comes to this, so the most idiot-proof mods would be better.
thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Your choices will be dictated by the chipset on your Wii DVD. You should start with a SN check on Wii tracker.

i have launch day systems, is that better for modding or worse as far as choices for the modchip?

Better, the earlier consoles were easier to mod. If you have a launch console then just get a wiikey, its the easiest.

^^^ I completely agree. Definitely the earlier you got your wii, the easier it will be to mod. Wiikey is probably your best bet, but also read up on the wiikey2.

A straight, no bs answer would be go for a Wiikey. If you have a launch system and your s/n checks out you will be fine. For whatever reason the Wiikey just took off in popularity and therefore has the most support when it comes to updates and the like. However, keep in mind installing a modchip, much less just opening the Wii itself is a complicated and difficult process. If you have no experience with soldering and/or are not experienced working with small electronics, do not try to install a modchip yourself! You will likely ruin your Wii and be out whatever else you paid for the modchip. Just to give you an idea, the first generation Wiikey is about the size of my thumbnail and I believe there was 6 solder points on it, all of which were very small. Look at this and keep in mind this is a very magnified picture.

anyone know anything about modchipcentral.com?
they offer the wiikey2 with a solderless clip. i can get that already soldered for $70 plus shipping.
does this seem like a good deal? and would this allow me to play the backups without a hitch?
as always, thanks for the guidance!!!!

You can get a Wiikey with Wiiclip for $15 cheaper at modchipcentral.com which is HERE.
The site is a reliable site. I get all my mods from them.

While I have not personally tested the Wiiclip, I have heard there are some issues with instability. So just take it with a grain of salt is all, but this is definitely the option for you if you don't want to have to solder yourself. Good luck.

Most do not have issues with the Wiiclip. As many as they sell very few have issues. Even if they have issues it could be something else other then the Wiiclip.
Of course a wire install would be better but if you don't have good soldering skills then the next best thing is Wiiclip (if installed properly should work perfectly fine).
