Hey,

I was never a big fan of LBP, in fact, I thought it was pretty stupid. However, I just found this article and thought you all might be interested if you didn't know about it already. Enjoy...

Quote:
SCEE has just confirmed that LittleBigPlanet has slipped because ?the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur?an? in one of the licensed background tracks, but has not supplied a new release date.
Original source: Click here

I believe they are looking to re-release it nov 14th. I think that is a date, but I might be off one or two.

I was thinking about getting it for my wife to play. She liked the beta.

Now they're saying it'll ship the week of Oct.27th. They had made a patch but decided against it and are releasing new discs.

Quote:
LBP to ship in North America in the week of October 27th

According to the US Playstation Blog, Sony will begin shipping LittleBigPlanet to retail in North America the week of October 27th. The game was delayed after gamers found that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur?an. Media Molecule have revealed that they "prepared an automatic day 0 patch and had a new disk image ready; however a decision was made within Sony that the right thing to do for quality and support of people with no on-line was to replace existing disks."

They've already stated that they're delaying the release so they can replace the discs.

So... what's the big deal here? A little quote from the Qur'an? Whoop dee-f-ing-doo.

I don't see people freaking out whenever someone mentions God in a country song. (Not that I hate country music.)

Wow. Just wow.

Because Muslums see it as disrespect. The words are to be spoken with respect, not sung in a song.

If a recording company unknowingly released a cd which contained lyrics saying f-this and f-that about God, you'd expect them to recall and replace it, right?

From a corporate stand point is a big deal. You don't want to go pissing people off specially when its a touchy subject like religion.
Also muslims are hard core when it come to their religion and you cant fault them for that. Its all about respecting diversity and culture. This is no different than that PSP ad that had a Caucasian girl that had her hand on a black girls neck. It was about the new white PSP coming out. Also sony had to take an ad they had in italy which the x,o,suare, and triangle was incorporated with the crown of thorns that was put on Jesus. That also had to be taken down as it was involving religion.

This was not the first time this has happened. This same thing happened on an xbox fighting game.

I understand, but if it was an accident, they immediately patch it on the release day, and issue a public apology, that should have been more than enough? If not these more hardcore religions need to mellow down a bit.

I think if a patch was to be an easier solution, bu logic it would have been the first course of action rather than delay the game plus its a week. Not really a big deal if you think about it. If you think about it. IT'S A GAME. Let not lose perspective on that. It's a game and I would hate to think that we would rather offend a group of people so that we can play a game. Also I think they were more thinking of what kind of a backlash this "mistake" would have caused. I mean let's face it, a certain small group of muslims gets offended, they take's "revenge" on a whole different level. I think media molecule being in England did not want to take the chance and find out.

The its just a game also works in the other direction, it was just an honest mistake. Its ridiculous how some of them fly off the handle at such things, and because they do everyone acts like they're walking on egg shells when dealing with anything in the whole muslim religion; which is a bit ridiculous. I mean look at all the other racism in the world like against people of African decent and Hebrew and they're the only ones who the ignorant people fear aka respect; doesn't that seem wrong to you?

In addition, because it's just a game, there shouldn't be that big of a deal about it. I mean, all I've heard is that they quote some lines from the Qur'an.

It's not like they're screwballing Islam or something. I don't see how quoting it is anywhere near as bad as saying "f-this and f-that about God," as someone put it. As far as I can see, the quoting is the exact same thing as... again, I'm using the country genre, just because it's the only thing I can think of right now.

Honestly. "Jesus, Take the Wheel." Why didn't anybody go up in flames about that? Oh, that's right. It's a Christian song, so there's nothing wrong with it.

...anyway. Rant.

Let's not comment further on religion please, suffice it to say that there are unfortunately religions out there and/or people who twist things towards a religious slant purely to cause offence or harm to more laid back religions/people.

Anyways, I think they did say that they were going to be releasing a patch that would fix the game so that there doesn't have to be a recall. Was this correct?

Bottom line is. Its only a game. It got delayed resulting in creating minor inconvenience. We still get to enjoy the game regardless.
