Back in May/June this year i was using a D2C chip on a console bought in May 2008 in the US only to find out a few weeks later it was a possibility that Nintendo had manufactured the wii with completely neww chipsets on the dvd drives.
So i left it be because at the time there was no solution for this problem. Now i ahve returned to see if anything had progressed, i have done a bit of research and found out that back in around May this year that brought out two new chipsets D2C2 and D2E.
I would like to know how to find out by serial search maybe, wether the chipset i have in the wii is D2C2 or D2E as i did a similar search using a site earlier this year which didn't turn up any definite results which i know why now.
I have been looking at the D2SUN (DMS/D2C/D2C2 + D2E) which covers all the new chipsets and claims to be a solution for all types of nintendo wii consoles.
Obviously i need to find out which new chipset is in my wii as there are different settings on the modchip to be applied after/during soldering to make certain things work.
Any advice or guidance atall? Thankyou in advance.
however this is probably the one you used. There really isn't a way to tell the difference between the two. I've heard different theories in the matter but your best bet is to go with a chip that covers both of them. There are several, D2Pro 9V2 and the Sun you mentioned and also the Wasabi V2. Pick up one those and you should be good to go. Hope that helps.
Thankyou for all your help both of you, a i feel slightly more confident in the matter, so when i have some spare time i'm going to sit down with my console and prepare, unlike i did last time.
When modification chips first were released for the wii it was so much more simpler, i had modified about 5 or 6 consoles and then had a break. By the time i had returned to do it for myself, everything had to go and change didn't it.
I have a good feeling about it now though, seems just as simple as it was, once i know which chipset i have, thanks for the information.
Between the chips mentioned above does anyone recommend a certain one, a chip that covers all new chipsets?
I've read about the SUN chip and it sounds all singing all dancing to be honest, with an external chip to activate and deactivate the modchip.
