hey guys, i am using a wireless network adapter for the first time, i bought it off of a buddy of mine and i am pretty sure it works, because he used it. it detects the network adapter as USB wireless, but on wireless Network it says not connected. i know my connection is good because i am typing this wirelessly on my laptop. my router is unsecured, because i dont have any neighboors. so why wont it connect? i would assume at his house his wireless connection was encrypted and that maybe it is still looking for that connection? i dunno, i have never used one, and i dont have an instruction manual, so any help would be greatly appericated. also after it gets to step two, its not like it even searches for it. it instantly goes to not connected. i was expecting to at least take its time to look, but i get the error almost as fast as i press the button to start the test.
Well its kinda hard to say. Could you possibly submit like what it does, or where it fails at. Because mine fails sometimes at the Ip Address, when my router is off. So:
1st:
Check to see if your router is on. I know this is stupid but just do it, sometimes you would be surprised.
2nd:
Is the router connected to the modem? Check that too.
3rd:
Make sure your 360 has the automatic settings set for the connection.
step 1 & 2, like i said i am typing this wirelessly so i know my router and everything is fine, how do i do step 3, i have never done it. sure i could figure it out, but i really dont have much time, not home yet.
You have to go into the settings page where it has all your ip info. It looks like maybe 4 or 5 rectangles. Pick the bottom one and it will allow you to scan for wireless networks in the area.
I just upgraded my wireless router yesterday and that's what I did to get mine back up.
good, I would have check to see how I set mine up wirelessly once I got home. SO you were able to fix it using that auto scan? I take it that it was still looking for the previous wireless network?
basically even though it was plugged in and realized that it was plugged in, it was still looking for that cat5 connection that i used to have. so i just went in and turned on the wireless adapter. at least thats what i think. anyways yea i got it working.
