Am new to this, but here's my question. If I were to create a image file using Alcohol120 and I know for a fact that this will take 2 DVD's because the way chapters are set, can I then use DVD shrink to shrink this image file stored on HD and then must I use Nero to burn this shrinked copy to DVD+R or can I use Alcohol120 to burns this file? Don't have Nero at this time.

You can save youself a bunch of steps by just using DVD Shrink to rip and compress. It will do that in one step. If you do get Nero, the newer versions of Shrink can be set up to automatically burn with Nero - saving another step.

Thanks, I should have read on this prior posting. I presumed that DVD Shrink did not allow to burn just shrink. Question remains what version of DVD Shrink must one use. Version 3.15 is a beta, should I stick with 3.14??
How about Nero, newest version I presume. It's up for sale right now.

Just check the software section or enter the names of the software in the search - you can download them from here. btw, use Shrink 3.1.4 and Nero has the new Ultra 6 which you can demo before you buy.

zimer,
You're way behind the times, don't worry about it saying beta, what you want now is DVDShrink 3.1.5 beta4, the link is in my previous post -

cats7,
The newer version fixed a couple of problems that 3.1.4 had. I like to recommend the most up-to-date version when starting new people out. Since the program is free it's not saving them any $$$ by getting an older version. I.e. Nero 5.5 can be purchased for as little as $10.00 from Nero dealers -
A Newbie will take everything you say literally. They will look for 3.1.4 afraid to get 3.1.5 because it wasn't what they were told to get from the store. Keep the one you had but give the new guy the current version -

Pete,
I've been away so haven't had a chance to reply. I'm a relative newbie myself and speaking of Nero, let me ask you a question: I've been using the demo Nero 6.0 suite and really like it, but don't wanna drop 80 bones on it. any thoughts? I'm gun-shy about getting the OEM version - apparently some OEMs don't even have the dvd burning capability. thanks

CATS57, Nero Express comes as software with Pioneer burners I have used it for over 6 months and it works perfect with DVD Shrink. I use the older version of shrink 3.0 beta 5 so I have to get the movie to my HD with shrink then burn it with Nero, I am sure you can find the OEM version for $10.00 or so. No coaster yet

cats7,
Yea, I know what you mean about dropping the Bucks - when I was younger those Pounds/Dollars were hard to come by ;)
Mudshark says you can get by with Nero express, you can try that - I'm thinking that if you can get it from Ahead then perhaps an upgrade to the full boat Nero won't kill you later on -
The full boat has a bunch of nice toys - Did you know that Nero recode is like another Shrink (minus the ripper, you need Decrypter) and other extras like their MiniDVD is so kool for making super cheap backups on CD's :-)
Anyway, can't hurt to try -
Also, look into RecordNow Max, it is excellent but, I don't know what the $$$ would be -
