From what i've read my sata chipset ICH8M will work fine. Now my sata chipset, (Being a laptop) , has a strange input for its sata. Its has a female input. The harddrive has a male output.
If i were to buy this:
here Would it work to flash my drive?
Thanks
Alex
I know,
I've done this many many times. With other drives with other set ups.
I'm saying, will that setup with that adapter work to flash the drive.
(I want to be able to do this by laptop, on the run)

I would check to see if your laptop could even boot from a usb stick without the hdd installed before I buy that adapter.
Even if it worked I don't think you would be able to flash Hitachi drives, only sammys and benq's right?
Why wouldn't it boot usb without hdd. That makes little sense.
No hitachi drives wouldnt work. AS it wouldnt be able to boot into windows.
Sammys + benQ's should work though.
Well for one your bios might not support it unless you have tried and tested it.
IMO not testing something simple before spending money makes little sense but that's just me. :P
How far back does modern go nowadays? LOL! My Vaio desktop that's 3 years old wouldn't do it so I had to use a usb floppy for flashing sammys and benq's.
Either way go for it and let us know how it goes. That would be pretty cool if you could flash drives on the fly.
I would also be really surprised if you couldn't boot from a usb stick. I honestly haven't even seen one that can't. Although I've only done it on somewhat newer computers (within the past few years). But yeah, let us know.
