Hey everyone,
I just got the e74 error this morning while playing fable 2. My 360 had only been on for about 30-60 mins and I got lines and distortion on my screen. I tried switching cables around, and when I turned it back on I had the error. I know that this is an internal hardware error, but my question is if I send it in will I get my same drive back (benq flashed w/ixtreme 1.4)? Or is it possible I could get one of the new read only lite-on? I would be extremely pissed if it came back and I either didn't have the same drive or couldn't flash it.

Anyone recently sent their box to MS? If so did you get the same hardware back, or at least not one of the new drives?

Thanks in advance

From my experience of sending many many systems to M$ its very likly that you will be geting back a new lite-on drive unless you pay them to fix urs

Well I contacted MS, and they are covering the repair. I asked the guy (he had a hard time understanding me) if it would be a new one, or be repaired. He said if they can fix it they will and send me the same one. Otherwise it will be a new one, and I have the feeling that they may replace it over repairing a mobo. It is probably easier and cheaper for them.

Even if they repair your motherboard I'm sure they could switch your old dvd drive with a new Lite-on Drive without any problems.

XBOX Halo Ed. = DuoX2 w/250gb HD
Xbox 360 Red Elite 120GB HDD = no-stealth 1.6 & XBReboot V3 & 1TB usb hdd
PS2 Slim = freemcboot v1.8 - PSP Black Slim = 5.00m33-6
Wii = w/ Blue XCM ii-case, Wiikey2 & softmodded

My 360 elite was freezing and i sent it to microsoft, it was 4 months old. In a couple weeks i received a completely different console. Now from experience it's not hard fixing a freezing console, they just made sure the 360 wasn't opened and threw my 4 month old 360 in the pile. That's all they do. Earlier when they actually sent you the box to ship your 360 in they would repair the same console. Now they just throw your old one in a pile and send you a refurbished one.

So more than likely you'll get someone elses repaired console.

well thanks for the responses everyone, getting a refurbed box to me is much better news than a brand new one, for the sole fact of the dvd drive. I am really hoping not to get that lite on drive. Mine was opened however i will be replacing the warranty sticker, and if they refuse to fix it i will repair (or attempt to) myself.
BTW C4RN1 do you happen to know what drive is in your system, and when did you get it back?
thanks

For what it's worth, I received a refurb from MS on 08-29-2008 and it had the benq drive. So, as of 2 months ago they were still sending out some benq's atleast. I believe it's about a 50/50 shot at getting the lite-on or the benq. They still have to get rid of their remaining stock of new and used (from RROD consoles) benq drives.

There is still hope, but it may be slim these days.

Update:
Its being prepared to be shipped back now. It says repaired, and has the same serial number. I requested that they try to repair the console I had, and the phone tech put a note on my account saying that. So I'm assuming I'm getting the same 360 back with a repaired motherboard (lets just hope its not the same case w/different guts). I'll update again as soon as it arrives.
Thanks everyone again for your input.

Well here is an update for all of you. Today I got my 360 back from ups, opened it up, hooked it up, and turned it on. I placed a backup game in the drive, and it loaded perfectly. The only difference was the where the warranty sticker was there is now a different sticker like the one in the forum here:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/639509
Now i am gonna put it in a different case that i'm gonna mod w/ some talismoon fans and cut the mesh out.

good stuff... I had my console running yesterday for about 16 hours straight and it was just a little warm on the side the mb sits on. The air comming out of it was a little warm but not hot. Even the plastic mesh in the back wasn't hot. I think we got this xbox cooling figured out now.

Let me know how it goes, i'm currently rewiring a talismoon fan to fit orange leds... instead of using a resistor for the 3.3 volts i'm soldering smt resistors to the circuitboard.....yes i'm crazy.
