Not sure what i'm doing wrong here, I followed the instructions to the T as far as I know.
1) Downloaded XBOXHDM
2) Downloaded UXE Complete v 0.2.2
3) Ran both 71-fonts-install and nkpatcher-06-install from within the "support" folder
4) Copied the contents of uxe-c-replace to xboxhdm\linux\C
5) Copied the contents of place-on-e to xboxhdm\linux\E
Which left the following directory structures for the ISO
6) Burned the iso on memorex DVD+R at 1x
7) Disconnected IDE to DVD on xbox 8) Connected molex from pc to hd on xbox
9) DVD on pc set to slave on secondary IDE, DVD inserted
10) Turned on pc, turned on xbox which is connected to tv
11) Immediately after x opens on tv, never see MS logo on bottom, goes directly to error 12
12) Disconnected IDE from xbox to HD
13) Connected primary IDE from pc to xbox
14) Select option 2 from XBOXHDM, loading sequence ensues
15) At prompt, typed "xbrowser" and received following error
"looking for cd-rom in /dev/hda"
"looking for cd-rom in /dev/hdb" and so on until "/dev/hdt"
"linux cd not found"
16) At prompt typed "xboxhd" and received following error
tries to mount cd image on xboxhdm but fails, "no such device or address"
Same results even if I had the pc dvd set as slave on promary IDE
I've not once seen any error regarding the hard drive being locked
Please help, have been beating my brains out trying to figure out what i'm doing wrong.
Just guessing but this just looks like a crazy attempt at using xboxhdm to mod an xbox with a dvdr. You are supposed to burn the cd image to a cdr and boot the cdr. Make sure in your bios it's set to boot from the cd drive first.
You should try the hotswap tutorial with xplorer360. You'll get a hell of a lot further. This way you don't have to screw around with the cd/dvd issue you have.
Xbox Software
You will find xplorer 360 on that page
Use this tutorial
Quote:HERE IS THE SUMMARY OF HOTSWAP WITH XPLORER360:
FOR Xplorer360, you need to know what is primary and secondary IDE cable on PC. So the PC's hdd is usually on the primary ide cable. Leave this IDE cable ALONE.
The other IDE cable is secondary. Remove all devices so this ide cable just connect to motherboard and the other end will connect to xbox's hdd.
Also check jumper on xbox's hdd. Make sure it set to Cable Select OR Master. turn on xbox and time when xbox goes to error screen or service screen. Now you are ready to do hotswap.
-start with xbox and pc off
-turn on PC and hit Pause/break key. PC should stop loading. If your pc can't stop loading then logon windows. You can hotswap in both cases (hit pause/break OR logon the windows first)
-turn on xbox (You can try both: without game OR with a game inside dvd drive). Disconnect ide cable of xbox's hdd JUST few seconds BEFORE xbox goes to service screen/error. Also watch the LED. it should stay green at the time you disconnect ide cable.
-connect xbox's hdd to PC
-hit any key on PC to continue boot up to windows. If you are already in windows then ok. PC boots normally and act normally, if not hotswap will not work.
- goto Manger and scan for a new drive. You should see xbox's hdd.
-open up xplorer360 and read the xbox's hdd
-if you can't read the hdd, turn off pc and connect xbox's hdd back to xbox. Then turn off xbox.
Try again for 3 times.
Let me know if you can't get it works. Also tell me what wrong with your xbox and error code too.
Oh, and next time when you post all this information include what you're trying to do and exactly what tutorial you are having problems with. There are a lot of different tutorials on here and it's hard to answer a question if you don't know all the facts.
Fair enough, I was able to burn a cdiso to a dvd before and it booted properly, won't say what the iso was of, but it didn't have linux at the core. Maybe that's why it didn't work for me, I dunno. I guess linux makes the distiction. Loaded fine up til that point.
I've been working on this for a total of about 6 hours so i'm still wrapping my mind around the procedures for the hack.
I actually just tried a different method using XBL & Kingroach?s Ndure PC Installer. Successfully hotswapped the drive and even went through all the installation procedures, backing up the dashboard, etc. It stated that it completed the install but alas when I rebooted the xbox, it still loaded the stock dashboard, no joy.
Any ideas on that, do you need step by step info? I would like to resolve the issues with that method since I came so close.
After reading the tut for the xplorer 360, are you telling me that, after backing them up of course, I can just overwrite the c: and e: folders from windows and successfully perform the hack?
By the way, love the sig at the bottom of your post, funny stuff. Often thought that myself.
That's exactly what i'm saying. You can easily replace any files on any partition using xplorer360. As long as the hard drive is unlocked (which is what hotswapping does) you won't have any problems.
...and yeah i plan to add a big red search button to my sig.. i just keep getting sidetracked.
[edit] you motivated me lol ... now if i could just center it
Well I screwed up somehow. I was attempting to overwrite a folder in the c drive, received a couple errors and Xplorer360 crashed. I reopened Xplorer360 and the 4th partition (E drive) was gone!
Fortunately (I hope), I made 2 backup copies. One was a direct export of all partitions to a folder on my hard drive and the other was an image backup.
Now the xbox won't boot into the ms dashboard, unless I eject the dvd tray after it stops at a blank screen. It shows the hard drive at 0 bytes, and it also won't play a game when inserted.
I'm assuming that my only hope of rescue is SlaYers EvoX Auto-Installer 2.7 FINAL cd?
