I heard that trying to use some backup some games will fry your modchip.

Is this true ??

First of all im pretty new to this whole thing.
I just bought a Wii with a chip installed.
The guy who sold it was warned by the guy who installed the chip that some games were programmed by manufacturer to destroy the chip if backed up.
next question...since Im new
Im going to pick up an LG burner. 8161 to 8164. I sthere any others that will work for backing up Wii games

Sounds like you got your facts twisted. You CAN BRICK your wii by running a disc from another region that contains an update. Running an alternate region's update will semi-brick your wii, and will not be usable untill a newer update is released for your region.

No lawn gnomes will jump out of the dvd with acetylene torches and remove your mod chip.

for dvd drives that support wii game ripping, see the super sticky.

bricked,fried,screwed... all similar terms to somebody who does not understand what is meant.

The modder probably warned guy A of a brick.

Guy A probably warned guy B with different terminology (didn't have a clue)

Guy B fears wii spontanious combustion.

the game of telephone and wii modding make for poor bedfellows.
