I recently got a modded Wii with the D2Pro9 with a bunch of backups. the problem i'm having is that some of the backups work, about 3 or 4 while the rest (about 6) don't. they all show up in the wii channel and you hear the disc spinning but when you try to load I get the error message that the disc cannot be read. So I thought it might be an issue with my current firmware version that was on the Wii (3.3U) so I used the TP hack, loaded the homebrew channel and downgraded to a previous firmware. same deal, the same games that worked before still loaded ok, the others did not. OK so I figured that it's possible some of those discs are bad or jsut weren't burned correctly.

so I decided to burn some of my own. just IMGburn, at 4x speed with Memorex DVD-R's. the first game, warioland shake, loaded up just fine, got through the opening movie and then the same error again, unable to read disc. then I tried a new burn of Mario kart. same settings. imgburn, 4x, memorex dvd-r. shows up in wii channel, tried to start the game and the same error again.

Regular non backup games load and play just fine and as I previously said some of the backups load and work just fine while the rest and the two that I burned did not.

So i'm curious if it's simply the media I'm burning too or something else. all the dvd's (working and not working) are memorex dvd-r's. I opened up the Wii and everything looked fine with the chip itself. Just some advice would be appreciated.

i have had a similar issue with my d2pro but a little different but i think we all fall under the same problem: the iching/eject issue, this problem can be solved by updating the chip using the d2prog to 2.3 firmware, i havnt done this because my problem comes and goes, by the way you need to buy the d2prog

just updated the firmware for the chip, didn't resolve the issue. only possible explination is the media. i'll try another brand of dvd-rs and see if that works.

I have many games burnt to memorex disks and they all work flawlessly, burned with Imgburn at 2x speed.

Sounds like a laser type error, the wii is very sensitive to the media it reads. You could try verbatim or taiyo yuden disks (don't bother with any other makes), but you could also need to give your drive a clean, particularly if you have a dusty house or have pets, the wii is not a very resistant piece of hardware.
