i was just wondering is it possible to do a media update on my son`s 360 without connecting the 360 to xbox live as the 360 has been flashed when we try to play films on the 360 it tells us to do a media update and the following code is displayed status code 51-coodf236

If it has been flashed, not pysically modded, you should be fine.

No way around it you have to connect to live to update the codec.
