is there any software or hardware out there that can reduce the size of files dramatically. not in the normal sense, but with the power to compress gigabytes into megabytes, or killobytes?

well i guess you could ask the same question for 360 files. i was just using a dvd file as an example so there wasnt any confusion.

See the thing i am trying to do is store the video game files after downloading on a hard drive. however i dont want the files to be 6.5 - 7gb in size. i wanted a program that condensed the file to a very small size, than able to extract the file to its original size later on if need be. i hope that makes sense.

not to be rude or anything, but im sure a quick search on google for a file compression software would give you the answer faster than anyone on here will.

depends on the files and their contents.. Most modern file formats are pretty squashed already.

You will NEVER compress gigabytes of data into a few megabytes.. not possible
