Wii's are still more because of the demand.
PS3's are still more because Sony has forever had the mentality that people do not care about cost.
360's are cheap because next month it will have been out for 3 years. Production costs are to the point where they can lower the retail cost and still make a profit.

someday- sony is gonna lose its trust and plummet, its actually quite amazing how sony takes advantage- they actually invest some into descent technology. btw- i remember buying a ps2 in 2003 or 2004 for 200 bucks (compared to its original 300 retail at release in 2000), the thing kept its value for a good time after too (and still-150ish today).

It could because of the RROD problem. Many people know about and will pay for another system cheap.

Please post some links to a breakdown of manufacturing costs to support your comment.
I'm pretty sure last I've read, Sony switched to Foxconn for manufacturing the PS3, which has production costs at break even. Or maybe they're making a profit on each unit? Either way I find it pretty hard to believe the BR drive makes up half the cost of the unit. The blue diodes are much cheaper to manufacture now as compared to when the PS3 launched.

@smurff :
great come back "italics"
@ bhetrick:
Where you're from the PS3 maybe $400,here in NZ it's $799.Either way
you know exactly what i was saying originally, the more hardware the higher the cost, remove the blue ray & the ps3 would be the same price or cheaper than the 360, it's also part of the reason why ms did'nt include the hd player in it's console, apart from adding to the 360's size & lets face it the PS3 is a monster, there's also the extra cost involved, perhaps in time the two will be the same price, tho i suspect the ps3 will always be a little dearer, say by $100. nz,as it stands the two are quite close in price now

Why even complain on price, if u cant afford it, dont buy it, if u can charge it go for it. Besides, if u wanted a car your take a loan, if u cant buy that supped up v8 & up sports car youll never buy it.
My point is why complain on price, your buying this or that system to entertain yourself, atleast the 360 or ps3 wont cheat on you like a chick, and atleast theres a payoff!
Blue ray is the reason ps3 is higher in price, but ill take games over movies any day of the week

not like many ps3 games support 1080i or 10080p output, most are only made for 720p at the most. look at the back of the games, it tells you right there. worthless claiming HD and your not even at the top.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. One thing though, it doesn't matter what the PS3 retails for here in the US or where you are in NZ, it still costs Sony the same price to manufacture it. And what does Blu Ray boil down to; you have a blue diode vs a red diode.

i tried fixing an rrod, and i actually got somewhere, but thanks to the permanently damaged hardware i later discovered- i realize why those older 360s are cheap, but even the newer 65nm foxconns don't retail much. and whats this about age? i can't hear your opinions or ask you questions because you're 3 years older then me?

I'm looking at this from a slightly outside place.
M$ are still making a loss on every console they sell. They are after the money they get from the game licensing and the live system.
$ony are living up there in "we don't care" world now.. They are making a profit from every console sold so can hang out and see if the project breaks even over it's lifetime, regardless of market share or customer satisfaction.
Tendo are rolling in it.. I can hear the corks popping every holiday season when because of supply problems (probably deliberate) their console sells for 1.5x or more it's rrp.
There you have it..
M$ are trying to claw back losses by using the other cash generation strings available with their device.. They want people to have them and pay to play online regardless of individual unit loss.
Sony don't give a toss, they are making a profit on each console sold.
Tendo don't need to do anything.
