I'll try to make this as short as I can. PLEASE help if you can.

I had been able to connect fine for a long time. Recently, I can't. The computer I used to connect is now crapped out, so I'm trying to use my laptop. Here's what's going on:

Laptop is wireless, wired to 360....everything I've seen online mentions enabling ICS in the advanced tab. The problem is, there is no ICS option in the advanced tab. There IS the option in the 1394 Connection for ICS, though, but it does not help. My router is set up to allow DHCP and everything else in the network (all the computers) are connecting to it and getting their automatic IP addresses fine. I get a failed IP test on the 360 no matter what I do, so I'm guessing there's something about the laptop getting in the 360's way, but I can't get anything to work; bridged connection doesn't work, ICS isn't even there, nothing. PLEASE help if you have any ideas.

or if you don't want to spend the money on a ms wireless device, you can buy a network bridge for like 60 bucks or so. It turns a wireless signal into a wired one. I used to use one.

need jtag help? Xbox 360 console repair? PM me or chat

I don't have a 360, just loads of old type xboxes, however i have all my upstairs consoles and pc's wired, to a wireless router (along with standard ethernet switches as there's so many machines). This wireless router uses 'WDS' via DD-WRT firmware to (wirelessly) connect to the downstairs router (which hangs off the cable modem).
So my point is that i don't use any of that ICS nonsense, or bridging or whatnot, just plain old ethernet, and let the wireless routers do the hard work. All the xboxes and pc's have stable internet connections this way, whereas when i used wifi cards in the pc's and a wireless adapter on the one xbox, i had a fair few internet connection problems.
Of course WDS isn't needed for this, nor is DD-WRT, it's just that i have signal dead spots in my house.

Just throwing that idea in the mix, in case there's room to run a bit of ethernet cable..

hey guys, thanks for the help, I finally got it working again this morning. I realized my boneheaded move that the last time I reloaded this computer, I didn't even reinstall the driver for the ethernet card!!! So once I did that, it could actually realize it had a cable connected and everything was fine.

I do have another question though, if you can help; I'm using the free ZoneAlarm firewall and I had to shut it down to get the connection to work. Are there some settings in ZA I can use that will let this work without having to shut it down?

Somebody set up us the bomb.

there is probably a setting in ZA that will allow you to give permission to the 360 to access the net through the laptop. such as allowing its IP address.
