first thing i have been looking around but problem is I'm finding to much info and I'm confused on what i need. i think i understand the process. So just want to know what i would need and how i can tell what kinda of stuff i would need...

1. should i buy new or used? i want new but not sure if this process only works with older ones. I know it depends on what drive your comes with but how do i tell which on i have.

2. depending on if it matters if its new or used what all do i need? I.E. special screw drivers, special burners

3. this process doesn't have any soldering does it? from what i saw seemed pretty easy but maybe i was looking at wrong thing.

4. Saying i got an xbox 360 for 300, a ballpark amount but how much more am i looking to spend if i had non of the other tools needed?

5. how hard is this compared to other mod jobs? Put chips in all past systems, got card for DS, and did battery deal for PSP

Thanks for any help...

just buy a premodded xbox if you dont wanna go through the trouble they will be on your local craigslist (so you can see what you buy)

You do not need to solder
Its as hard as the battery deal for the psp IMO (its all opinion bases really)

Good Luck.

1. as of now i would buy used, as if you go to wal-mart of bestbuy you are almost guaranteed to get the new lite-on drive that is almost impossible to flash, and if you get a used one off of ebay or such, you can ask the seller what kind of drive is in it, if its been banned, flashed, warranty seal intact, ect.

2. you need a good dual layer burner, a samsung drive flashed with the kreon FW, if you wish to backup your own games (or you can just download them) and some good dual layer discs, preferably verbatiums. as for the screw drivers, you just need either a t10 or t12 torx bit (cant remember which it is). also, you will probably need a PCI card that has the via 6421 chipset in it to flash the 360.

3. there is no soldering now, unless you get the new lite-on i believe.

4. you will spend about 20 bucks on the PCI card, maybe 5 bucks on a set of torx bits, and depends on the dvd media where you buy them. also the costs for the burner and the samsung drive (can only get them on ebay now i believe as most of them are discontinued.)

5. i would rate flashing any drive on a scale of ten at around a 4. a benq drive or samsung drive only takes about 5 minutes to do, while a hitachi drive takes about 10 minutes.

I dont have problem buying used on MOST things but im really scared of the RRoD and not being able to send it off to get it fixed cause i voided it.

Is that something easy to fix? like the ps2 disk read error that all those ps2 had?

you shouldnt have a problem sending it into MS if you buy used, ive bought several RROD consoles on ebay and havent had a problem sending them back in for replacement. and if you flash the console you void the warranty anyways, so dont worry about that.

they used to just replaced whatever was wrong with it, but it became easier for MS just to replace the entire console as it speed things up, and now they can get more lite-ons out on the market. it is possible to flash the lite-ons, however, you have to have some programmer to read the FW from the drive, and then buy a new drive that isnt a lite-on and flash the lite-on FW to it since the lite-on is a read only drive. theres a couple of links on here about flashing this drive, just do a search and im sure they will pop up.

found a link for ya
