-go to http://www.aidtracker.com
-download the auto installer deluxe torrent file.
-use your torrent client to start the download.
-when it's done open up one of the folders and drag aidxxxxxx.iso to your desktop.
-use img burn or any burning program to open up the iso and burn it to a dvd.
-your xbox should automatically load it, select applications and it should be self explanitory from there.

xbox soft mods do start out as just a new dash then you got to add all the apps and emulators you want. Auto installer is a big download but definitely worth it. You can also check the downloads at eurasia.nu under util, xbox look for dvd2xbox and download. Then you can ftp it to your xbox. Dvd2xbox backs up your games to the hard drive.

You're going to be using a program called xboxhdm, some people have issues with the program and locking the drive. If you have any problems with it let me know.
Here's a couple tutorials
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/533828 - chunks tutorial - use this one
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/203286 - older tutorial
Once you get the drive cloned you can throw in the aid disc and format F and G that way. There's data corruption that occurs on partitions bigger than 137gb but formatting with the AID disc will solve that issue.

most of the time xbmc won't work when you copy the dvd to the xbox. It has something to do with the coding. If you want you don't even need to put a bigger drive in your xbox to watch movies on it. I have all my movies streamed to my xbox from my pc.
It's all done through windows file sharing and really easy to setup. If you want to go that route i can help you do that.
Basically i download the movies from a torrent site. They are all dvd rips so they're about 700mb a piece. I put them all in a folder and enable it to be shared on my network. Then in xbmc i select videos then workgroup smb share (I think that's what it's called) It lets me browse the folder, then i can select which movie to play and it automatically starts when i press a.
You can't stream games to the xbox but this is a great way to get around having a smaller hard drive.
For games you'll have to ftp them over or use dvd2xbox to copy them.

Actually dvd2xbox doesn't make iso's it rips the whole folder. So if you were to rip halo it would make a folder named "halo" in your F:/Games directory and the corresponding folders would be in there as well.
The way it works is your xbox dash sees a root directoy. It's usually directed to the "Games" folders on E:, F:, G: and it will make a link to the default.xbe file in the games root folder ie "halo". It's kind of difficult to explain, but to answer your question no it doesn't make iso's.
You can use any program to copy games to your computer to make an iso. I think i used to use dvd shrink a long long time ago, just check around, i never got into the whole copying games to disc routine, i have about 80 xbox games on my 500 gig hdd in my main xbox.

for movies and music i do the same as C4RN1, i have all my media on the one pc and the various boxes around the house just point to that ie i play movies and music across the network; i do the same for dvd's though i also often watch dvd movies from the xbox dvd drive.
As for games, all mine live on a 500GB USB2.0 hard drive and whenever i or the kids want to install a game on a particular xbox i just ftp that game over the network; the games were mostly copied to one xbox or another via many sessions of using DVD2XBOX, and many sessions of ftp'ing the game folders to the pc - a lot of work up front, but this way i never have to go looking for the original game dvd's. I have about 180 games on my USB2.0 drive, i should make a backup of that really as i don't fancy copying all those games again if it breaks.

Yeah all my movies and progs are on an external hdd i through together. All my important system things and older material are on a external 60 gig that i modified to run cooler (poorly designed maxtor external case).
I usually just keep the games, emualtors, and some movies on my xbox. My bit torrent downloads folder is directly shared so there's no need to move files or anything, when it's downloaded i can play it by selecting the same root folder as before.
Here's a couple pics of my cheap download/workstation comp.
comp-$270 monitor-$120 hdd case-$35 hdd-$80 keyboard-$40
Grand total $545

I know i'm obsessed with blue lights and yes it's a dell lol

Good stuff, i like Dell hardware, i have a few brand new Dell's, i just don't like the pre-installed software, plus all my mice are the same as yours, along with all my other kit there's LED's all over the shop.
Anyways, yes, i do exactly the same, all my torrents plus any important folders/etc etc are shared so my various pc's and xboxes around the network can see everything they need to.

I am impressed with this whole modding my xbox experience its nice that people put these programs togather for us to use it seems like it would take alot of computer skills to create these installers and such. My next project is to change the hard drive.

Yeah AID is awesome and it's impressive they're still updating an iso since the xbox is long dead. That doesn't mean i don't sell one every now and then... but not as many as i used to.
These people take pride in helping others, just like we do. It's a community for a reason, everyone is after the same goal.
Try the different dashboards and see which one you like the best. You should be able to install them in your apps folder.
If you have any problems with the hdd upgrade we'll be around.
