bricked hitachi????? how do you know????

I just think I may have bricked my hitachi drive, even though I'm not certain. how do you really know? I mean when the drive is hooked up to the 360 it ejects and everything but it wont play anything and I also tried to reflash it but cant seem to get it in to mode b using the any method( two wire trick, and slax)is it really bricked.

Are you sure that when you flashed it you flashed the key?Best way to tell is put in a cd or dvd movie if it Plays and not play Games than more than likely its a Bad flash.But if it won't play Movies then I'd say you got more probs.Try to open your flashed firmware in toolbox make sure its got your key number there.Also Make sure your orig firmware has a key init.As for getting it into Mode B ,I haven't ever had that prob so maybe someone else can help you on that one.

I'll try that (dvd movie, cd). back fw does have key in it. I'll update and let you know what happens.
update. ok I tried puting a dvd it's a no god put cd played fine any ideas what it could be.

I am Not sure what the prob is.I would say try reflashing it but you can't go into mode B.I guess if all else fails get another drive atleast you have that Key.

i think there is a way to get it into modeB without anything if it was flashed..... i cant remember right now but maybe something with ejecting the drive... turning it off(hard power off--unplug power from wall) with the drive open and then turning it on by hitting eject to power back on... i think something like that... i did it a while ago. Ill try lookin it up and let you know
----turn on console
----eject drive
----hard power off(unplug from outlet)
----power on(by eject button and if that doesnt work then just do regular power button)
----you should now be in mode b.... hopefully....haha

you know I did and restored and reflashed with no problem except it's still not reading games or dvds so I guess there is something wrong with the drive which was my fault being I opened it to clean the lens and F'ed it all up so I ill have someone else check it out and if they can fix it I geuss I'll but a replacement.

Man, when I flashed my 1st Hitachi drive, about 2 weeks ago, I had the same problem, but I was able to get to mode B. The problem was that with so much plugin and unplugin cables, I accidentally unplugged the sata cable off the 360's motherboard end (not off the DVD end). Like I said, I was still able to get into mode B because even if your Sata cable that runs from the 360 mobo to the DVD drive is disconnected, it should'nt affect mode B. It wouldn't hurt to check though.
Did you opened up the DVD try while windows was loading before flashing?

you should first do a restore and see if you can get it back to original reading games. Then you should go from there to do flashing.

You did'nt adjust none of the pot setting did ya?I know if its to high or low it won't read.There is 2 pots ,one for dvd and one for cd.

I got it into mode b sucessfully and restored then reflashe everything went good but it stil would read games. when I opened then drive it was just to clean the lens and that was it no pot tweaking or anything after I found out it wasn't reading anything except cds then that's when I looked into other options like lubeing the motor and and that magnet trick, nothing worked, should I try the pot tweaking I geuss thats my only option now or new drive. the thing is that it was working fine and the die is like new ad wasjust flashed just last week so I know it was something I did to the drive and don't ow whatit could be. anyone have a tut on the pot tweaking???

you probably just messed up the drive.... does it make noises or anything when you load in a disc? buying a new drive would be easier and its not hard to spoof it to make it work.

yeah it does make nosies, I also thought about replacing the drive, but I have a couple of questions if anyone can help me out.
1. I have a hitachi 59 drive and would like to replace with the same type of drive can I do it? or should I go with a different type? the only reason I would like to go with the hitachi 59 is because I don't have to invest any more money on getting other part to flash the drive.
2. anyone know where I can find a tutorial?

Replacing the lasser is much cheaper. Replacements sell for like 7-10 bucks on ebay. Besides, replacing the board circuit will not fix a defective laser lens.

well I just messed around with it and it's playing the games except the back up so I restored and reflashed and got some verbs and will try again it that doesn't work I just might just get another drive.

ok well it's working with originals but no luck with back ups maybe it was ready to give out. anyways bought a new drive exactly the same model and was wondering if I can just switch the boards and that be it??? Also if it's already flashed with iextreme 1.4 would I have restore/reflash the drive if I just switched the boards? or would it be like it was the older drive and be able to play back ups?

i had a problem when i cleaned my lens and it was very slective on what it played so i bought a new laser and works great

lol wow some people... reading that whole thing it sounds like cockoon *suprised* is actually right, it's just your laser. You realize it takes more power to bounce the light off a burned cd than an original? That would mean your originals might play sometimes, but backups would have a hard time with a weak laser.
360 lasers die quite often and all it takes is a replacment to get them going again. Most of the time it will read cd's but not dvd's, if you have that problem then the laser pot adjustment might work. If you had a problem like mine that you could play, cds, dvds, original xbox games, but not xbox 360 games then it's the board. All this info can be found by searching, as it has been discussed a few times before.

it does read my 360 originals, and al I was asking was about replace the drive without flashing it Can I just replace the boards and have it work or would still have to flash it? now if I have to flash it I have one other question when I flash (spoof) the new drive I connect it to the 360 set to mode b and flash am I right? once flashed with original fw do I hae to set in mode b and flash with ixtreme or can I just flash then (after flash with original fw) ?
