let me expand on what is going on. I started out primarily with Xbox backup creator 2.8... the latest you can find on xbins ftp currently. Off the bat i had trouble with it detecting the security sector. Off of the advice of the forums here that i have read in other posts, i always start by clicking the "unlock drive" button in the options tab. For the heck of it i also click the "detect region" button as well. I then toggle to the read tab, select "Complete image", and click start.
This is where the trouble begins.
I have noticed it works very sporatically... usually it starts to read the image... shoots right up to 3.39%, then stalls. From here it does one of 3 things...
1. locks up on the security sector detection
2. gives a failure message with prompt that it could not detect a valid security sector and stalls when i click abort
3. locks up on the part following the security sector detection. trying to remember the caption... i believe it is where it trys to locate the extraction point.
One thing that is universal from all errors is... my desktop basically stops working, and i have to do a hot shutoff and reboot. EVERY TIME. even if i hit abort, it seems that xbox backup creator lacks the ability to properly send a termination thread to the dvd drive.... and it just keeps going.
Now, on rips that DO work for me, often times it failes on me the first time, and works after a fresh reboot. This did not work with ninja gaiden 2 or halo 3 though... i was up till 1am trying to get it going... the closest i got was ripping the disc in "current partition" mode, which i cant use. (yes it did successfully rip it in current partition mode... it fails under complete disc mode which does me no good.)
Those that i have successfully ripped play fine on my 360.
I tried S360X last night fresh off xbins... version 4 of the program... did the same thing.
Shoots right up to 3% (264mb), and stalls out.
I allowed the program to run for around 15-20 mins after the 3% stall, and determined that nothing would happen beyond that and shut it off. I believe once i let it go longer then that.
So question is this... what am i doing wrong? Is this a standard issue? I cant seem to find any similar cases on the forums here. I dont see anyone really complaining about freezing on the security sector detection phase.
I would very much appreciate a hand with this. It's honestly driving me crazy.

DVD Drive used: Kreon Samsung SH-D163B
Also connected: LG GDR-8161B DVD drive (on its own ide socket) - wii game ripper (works like a charm)

So this might be dumb to ask, but my computer was doing the same exact problems, and I discovered I didn't have my version of windows all the way up to date. When I finally allowed the windows update to the current version, I was able to get it working.
Also, what version of the kreon firmware are you using?
well... i'm running vista... i cant see how that would make things work better, but i can give it a try tonight. To be honest i doubt it will solve my problems though as i belive my OS is up to date.
The drive is flashed with Kreon v1.0
and like i said, it DOES work, just not all the time. Very sporatic.
did you figure out the problem. i sorta haveing the same problem but i don't get hung up on the 3.39%. i get a successful burn and when i check to disc to see if it work it doesn't.
Noone ever replied to me, so no i didn't. I assume nobody knows how to fix this problem based on the lack of replies.
It simply will not extract the security sector on select games. I've tried cleaning them, rebooting, and inserting the disc while the program was loaded, and double checking to see if anydvd was not on my system. nothing corrected the problem.
