See title.
Does the speed have anything to do with my likelihood of being banned? Should I have stuck to 12x? Or does it not matter?

God this site is always good for a laugh when ur down. 8x wont be any different than 12x. I mean its the same program that is runing 12x-4x if the 12x is gona get you banned than the 8x will do the same..... And on the 7th day there was AFTERDAWN.

Ok thanks guys.
I just thought maybe MS had some way of telling if your drive was running unusually slow and might flag you.

This is all speculation, some say 8x DOES get flagged as there are some posts on the scene stating they called MS for some misc complaint and MS said their console was modified for lower speeds.
Others will say its not , just becuase.
I read on a tech article that MS choosed higher speeds because all the games at 7gb will play better with higher speeds then a blue ray
game at 2x speed. It comes down to code & compression. Personally if the console speed bugs u, maybe you should sit farther from it? I never hear the console when I game, unless I use my PC monitor for testing games, even thaught is clouded with the speakers, so its not an issue 4me.

I agree with tavek, we don't know one way or another. Therefore maybe people should be stating their opinions and backing them up with something solid rather than Quote: God this site is always good for a laugh when ur down. 8x wont be any different than 12x. . I think there could be a link between drive speed and bans because I have heard of people who have been banned and did use the 8x speed. However, I don't know for sure and neither does anyone else here.

If they banned you for speed, i doubt it would be for a specific speed. If anything it would be for a constant speed. From what I understand the drive generally functions at a variable speed, which is what the old firmware did. I believe this is what caused some of the fx issue's w/gta4 since some ppl running lower speeds could not read the information from the disk fast enough. However most games are not constantly running at 12x on an unmodded box, this actually seems more unlikely then it running at 8x on average. To me 8x would seem the safest bet since it is most likely closes to the average overall speed.

I never even suggested you couldn't get banned on a 12x drive. We're wondering if you are more likely to get banned if you are running something other than a 12x. We could get into a whole other conversation about all the other potential reasons people can get banned, but that might get confusing in this thread.

I would'nt think it has anything to do with speeds.I run mine at 8x and all the xbox's I flash besides Benq I run them at 8 Also, and not one has been banned.I am leaning towards bad game rips. Also I run my fan at 12v all the time .So the rumor of the fan speed can die also.Truth is Only Microsoft knows for sure, untill then Game away.

If you were using common reasoning, you wouldn't be making absolute declarations about something you have no real knowledge or evidence of. When you just state things like they're fact, just because you think they are, some people will believe you and that leads to them being misinformed. Whatever though, you can just throw your immature attitude around and attack anyone who doesn't agree with you.

Your right I shouldnt make "declarations". I mean what do I know right. Im sorry you felt attacked adambar. I was just throwing my 2 cents into the convo on what I believed to make sense. I didnt realize my words came off as sounding absolute and fact. I shall make better word choice next time as to not offend or confuse others
