You can make it so you can run a custom firmware.. If you play a newer game it won't ask you to update your firmware because in a sense it tricks the game to think you have an updated firmware. While you have this custom firmware(In my case 4.01 M33-2) you can have it be running on the 1.50 kernel.. So you can run any new game, as well as any homebrew apps.

The great thing about 4.01 m33-2 is that I can use the web broswer and remote PS3 play. There's also an ISO, CSO loader with this firmware.. All you have to do is put any PSP, or PS1 iso, or cso in to the ISO folder and it will run it without the use of an ISO loader, eboot, etc.

There used to be a good guide on qj.net-That same link you were talking about which wasn't working-it looks like its either been moved or deleted. There is another guide that is similar to the one from qj that can be found HERE-(about half-way down the page)

--In your case you will need the unpatched version of the game Lumines(the first one-not Lumines II) to perform the downgrade as you would be essentially updating your 3.11 to 3.50, and then from there downgrading to 1.50

^^agreed...Pandora is the way to go-you are going to have a tough time finding an unpatched copy of Lumines in the stores, especially at gamestop and the like.Sony asked retailers that sold the game to pull it from their shelves once word got out about the downgrader exploit.
This same thing happened previously with GTA:LibertyCityStories once it was found out that there was an exploit in that game and it was being used for downgrading.Sony had it pulled from retail circulation and then added a "security patch" to it before re-releasing as a "greatest hits" game.

People were paying $100+ on eBay for that back when it was the only game in town for downgrading. You can get either game relatively cheap now on either eBay or craigslist.
And like shaggy said, once you have a pandora battery, you can mod other psp's for your friends and such- and its also nice to have it on hand in case you wish to purposely yank the battery out of the psp while its updating like I do sometimes just for fun.
