I recently flashed my Samsung MS28 with the iXtreme 1.4 firmware, at 12x read speed. It does work, however my backups sometimes experience difficulty being read. Sometimes I receive the error message "unplayable disc", and have to put the disc in multiple times before the game will launch.
I'm fairly certain the problem isn't the backups that I burnt, because I tried those on a friend's 360 and they worked fine. My originals read just fine too. I was hoping to reflash my drive to read at 8x, and hope that will solve the reading problems.
I was wondering though, do I have to reflash the original firmware back to the drive and then flash 8x iXtreme over it, or can I just overwrite the existing 12x iXtreme?
my 12x ixtreme 1.4 works just fine. different xbox's have different sensitivities. What works on one may not work on the next.
It would be a better idea to just invest in some verbatim +R DL Singapore dvds if you havn't already. burn at 2.4, and bit set it to DVD-ROM. works fine for me.
it's your media, sometimes it's required to burn at different speeds or methods find what works for you drive, I learned the hard way and had the same problems and thought is was a bad flash or lens dirty. Well now i f'ed up my dirve and won't read a damn thing so just leave it man and get good media, burn at different speeds and find what's gonna work for your drive.
it's possible that it is your speed, but that is honestly not what I would do. If my 360 was saying dirty disc, or unreadable, and it worked on a friends 360, my conclusion would be that it is most likely the laser starting to go out.
