I just discussed using the wii as a DVD player with someone yesterday. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/714409

As for the web browser, there's an OFFICIAL OPERA BROWSER. Right from nintendo. Look it up.

I agree with you in the other thread penguin98. I don't see why anyone would want to use there gaming system as a DVD player.

Now when WiiMedia comes out that will be a different story. You will be able to stream DVD/AVI movies to the Wii. This not using the DVD drive and making it more piratical playing your Movies/Videos on the system.

But if your still content on playing DVD's on your Wii then get MFE Port for Wii. You can find more on it HERE.

Why would you want to use a $250.00 game console in place of a $50.00 USD > appliance that does more??????

All you are doing is increasing the wear and tear on your Wii's laser and shortening the life of the console.

I understand that it may "make sense to you", but you may want to consider the bigger picture.

Upconverting DVD players are less than $50.00 USD and the Wii will never do upconversion.

Lokking at the wii as a DVD player, its to get rid of the extra items on my rack. I dont have a 50USD DVD player but a 2000USD DENON DVD3800 player som its not to get the faboulus 480p signal ;) but to reduce the number of things on my table. If i can get the Wii to run DVDs easy so that my kids can do it, i will be able to removemy reciver and DVD palyer and only have a Wii benith my TV...

Its not a question of price or quality but the look of my living room :D

I asked, you answered. Fair enough.

Nintendo has a less than full featured browser. If you need to print anything, you're SOL. Printing isn't supported.

Nintendo doesn't (and won't) provide an app to play DVD movies.

Your only answer is homebrew.

If you value aesthetics more than your time and reliability of the solution, it can be done.

You might want to try MPlayer. You will need DVDx installed and the homebrew channel would be recommended to boot the MPlayer homebrew application (instead of using twilight princess hack all the time).

For more information on MPlayer go HERE.
