There was one other thread about this but the person seemed to work it out without the trouble I am having. So I started this thread. I have the VIA 6421 card. I have no other drives connected to my motherboard. I have tried NTFS4DOS and USB boot methods. I absolutely cannot, no matter what I do, get iPrep to see my drive. All I get when I am supposed to get to the "select sata port" screen is "!!!Error!!! Firmware backup/Patching Failed. Press any key to return to main menu". My VIA card is working because if I connect my HD to it I can boot windows. I have tried turning on the 360 and connecting at various times with no luck. I have tried different lengths of SATA cable, no luck. What the H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks am I missing??!!

Hey, Have you tried an older version of IPREP? that worked for me... also (and Im sure you did this) make sure your drive is plugged into port 0 of your sata card.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried both ports..several times, ugh. I also tried version 006 iPrep. Funny that while in windows prepping up the USB drive, all my info is there about the VIA card, Device ID and I/O info is there.

Thanks Bro!! Something about your comment made me go back and re-try iPrep 006. When I looked at the files on the 007 prepped USB there was no IO.sys file, maybe not needed in 007. When I went back and tried 006 again it worked! Who the hell knows what sort of buggered-up job I was doing after woking on this for several hours. Thanks again for the eureka moment! ---Chikn
