Bought a new xbox 360 60g pro today and am wondering about the possibility of playing burned games on it.

I have been reading alot but then came across a thread that the new xbox 360's are really not mod'able yet.

There is a ton of info out there and I feel a tad overwhelmed at the moment.

Can someone confirm that I am stuck buying retail and also where to watch for the release of new updates for this model? Is this the correct site? I am new to the scene of xbox's thanks.

i charge fourty for the flash, however much it costs to ship, not a flat rate, and however much it costs for the drive, from wherever i get it. sorry that 80$ did not include what would be my shipping fee. so yea they are pretty reasonable, but if you shop around you could get a better price from a member off of here. and if/before you ask i dont do lite-on drives, however a member by the name of bhetrick does, not sure what he would charge but i would say it would be along the same lines.

Well thats good news for me. I would imagine I can flash it myself from my desktop. I will have to dig a little deeper and check out cumberland mods. The unit will never go "live" so I am not worried about that. The flash is done with iextreme then?

Guess I am wondering about doing it myself and is the DVD drive a definate?

I have the textbook from 360mods.net but it doesnt talk about the lite-on drives.

What direction should I take for more info?

Or is flashing this myself not possible because the firmware is not public yet?

Thanks will also read about cumberland now.

Lite-on drives are the newest and it appears that the firmware is stored on read-only memory so at this point, it is not physically possible to write a new firmware to the drive. That is why people suggest you get a replacement drive from ebay or someplace. The textbook is a great resource, but unfortunately it is a bit dated now and does not deal with lite-on drives. Everyone seems to suggest you go and buy a used drive to replace your lite-on, but it is a very lengthy process as I understand because you have to obtain the key from your current drive and get it on your replacement drive. Honestly, I would just recommend waiting for a real fix for the lite-on problem as it doesn't appear they are going away anytime soon.

the direction you should take is to your bank statement to see if you have the money to pay someone to do it for you.

seriously though... remove the faceplate of the xbox and look for the exposed wires...

if you see yellow wires, its liteon, then refer yourself to my statement regarding the bank account.

With having the 60gb pro having the lite-on drive is pretty much definite. I haven't heard of anyone getting the 60 gb's with a beng.

Thanks

After reading more on it, I think I am going to go with cumberland for sheer ease. I have the money so thats not the issue. I was hoping to learn something along the way, but I am busy enough that I don't want to mess with it. I figure what 2 games will cost me is about what it will cost to have it done for me so its an easy choice.

Thanks for the help. -J
