you can't change the key for your xbox so there's no point in swapping anything

meaning the key is stored on the motherboard. so there is no way to change it. simple.....

Am I getting something different from the OP than the rest of you? Two disc drives, the original and a modded one. Swapping the disc drive whenever he wants to play either backups or originals online. From the way I understand it, yes you can. It's no more complex than replacing an original drive that won't read anymore by taking the key and flashing it into another drive. Only, the drive still works and you swap them around. Am I mistaken?

that's exactly what i thought, without the key thing that i still don't fully understand... a friend of mine got the RROD so i'm thinking of buying from him the console or only the drive and flash it so i can play modded games, i really need to know if it's possible and does anyone have some kind of link to explain anything related to it (or if u want to explain it directly :D) thx in advance.

since your going to be playing original games on live you dont even have to change your drive, i havent heard of people getting banned for firmware. BUT it would be cheaper to run a short sata cable extension outside your case so that when you wanted to flash/unflash you could just unplug the drive from the extension and to your motherboard. rather than opening your box and changing drives every time you needed to.

the problem is that everytime you log onto live it knows what you have been playing and how you have been playing it, that info is stored on the MB and since you cant swap MB's that is what gets banned, basically good thought, but you are wasting your breath. fix your friends rrod and have two consoles for yourself, one modded and one not. thats the smart thing to do. instaed of wasting a perfectly good console.

possible. but would be a hassle opening up your xbox every time. i have a modded xbox and an regular one. you should do the same if you have the extra cash.

go there and scroll down a few posts till you see pics.. the links for pics in the first post dont work anymore.
but honestly you said it yourself when your playing offline and go back online they dont know whether you were playing burned games i play on live with my modded box all the time, i just use original games, when playing backups i unplug the ethernet cable. i think your being a little to safe, like 3 condoms and 5 seatbelts.. you are just going to be uncomfortable and hate your life.

thx alot for that link now got an idea of what u meant, just got a couple more questions, my friend's drive is a samsung and mine is a Benq. if i want to permanently switch them for example and flash the samsung are there complications regarding the matter.
the thing about the key do i have to dump it from the drive or the mother board, if it's from the mother board then i guess i gotta connect the xbox with my pc right?
thx in advance....

homesick keeps being suspended for well, various idiocy

I see the noproblem account was created after i got rid of the creakyv2 account - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/711461/4327075 - this was while the homesick account was suspended for repeated immaturity and pea-brained behaviour.
homesick - i hope you don't get 'sick' of being 'home' as you've had more chances than most so are hereby confined to your home. You're now officially in the Afterdawn Hall of Shame. If you decide to come back you'll be monitored, and if you mess up again you'll be removed over and over again until you either (a) grow up or (b) get the hint...
The thread may now continue.
