Thanks to the recommendation of many users on these boards, I was able to backup my games with the dl Verbatim+ discs, while using imageburn

when I went back to best buy to pick up more of the discs I ran into a problem. Without changing my booktype settings, layer breaks, or any other settings on my imageburn and making sure they haven't been modified. I seem to be having a lot of trouble with the unplayable disc error now with this new pack of Verbatims

The very weird thing is that after several attempts to load the disc, it will eventually load up and play fine. And all the original backups I have load with no issues at all and play fine without any unplayable disc errors. And all the originals (non-backups) still work fine

But it is very irritating having to see that unplayable disc error over and over just to play my backups

I also double checked to make sure the discs were made in singapore just like the first batch, and I have burned all the games at 2.4X speed

Is there a possibility of a bad batch of discs from Verbatim?

I guess you could say that it is possible, but I would think it is very unlikely. Verbs are the best, and it might be something you are doing wrong. I have yet to have an issue like that with any dvd, let alone a whole pack.

need jtag help? Xbox 360 console repair? PM me or chat

thanks for the response, I can't remember the exact model of my drive in the 360. I had a pro flash it for me. But I am pretty sure it was one of the crappy hitachi ones that I have been hearing about

I didn't want to drop another $30 but just to feed my curiousity I think I am going to grab one more stack of the 15 count since I bought those the first time, before I got the 2o count pack that is having the issues now.

I would think it could be the burner, but I recently purchased this samsung and I doubt I could have wore it out with only a few backups

thanks, I checked the media code and one of them says MKM 001 and the other says MKM 003

there are different codes, plus there is a longer version code for each one below. Do you happen to know the difference between the two?

Ok, so I have an Hitachi 49, and I have been fighting with the damn thing reading my backups since I flashed it. It would read them sometimes and other times I would recieve the grand message "uplayable disc"

So I started with Memorex DVD's and it would read sometimes and not others so I posted to the forums and most everyone replied with "USE VERBATIMS." So at the time I didn't have any money to buy more DVD's at the time so I was hoping to find another fix by searching and reading through the forums. So I got some money and bought some Sony DVD's which had decent reviews and well my drive wouldn't even read them at all. So I then returned them to Best Buy and exchanged them for Verbatims. Well I went home burnt it and put in and it worked so I thought well my problem is solved played some Madden games on Live! and put in Dead Space, didn't read. SAME DAMN PROBLEM - 3 types of with all the same result, I was so pissed. So I then figured it was the ROM within the xbox. I was then going to go get a new xbox and flash it and see how it goes but I had an epiphany take apart the ROM and clean the laser. Which I did with rubbing alchohol.

Since then my xbox hasn't given me an "Unplayable Disc" message. And trust me I put in 30 different games and then turned it off for a while and did the same thing and it worked fine. Even had some Memorex backups I had burned that read fine.

SO IF YOUR HAVING PROBLEMS READING BACKUPS TRY CLEANING THE LASER IT DOESN'T HURT A THING!

nice, I wasn't the one that flashed my xbox. So I am not to familiar with opening my xbox, I might have the guy that flashed my system do a little cleaning for a small price

definitely worth a try, and thanks for the recommendation. Sorry to hear you were having the same annoying issues. I am going to try to buy the same set of discs I did before just to test those out, I figure I could use the extras to back up my hard drives in the future anyways, but I will definitely give the laser cleaning a try as well

thanks again for the advice

I went back to pick up a new pack of the 15 pack Verbatim's at the same best buy location, and reburned a backup I was having issues with 20 pack, and it loaded on the first try, three times in a row.

I am definitely going to get the laser fixed this afternoon or possibly Wednesday, but I found it very odd that now that same backup is working without an issue. They do have two different region codes between the 20 pack and the 15 pack, but they are both made in Singapore according to the label.

I am going to backup a different game now with both different types of discs and see if I get the same result. But does anybody have a guess at why the 15 pack works flawlessly as the 20 pack is producing the unreadable disc error like crazy?

If possible try a different burner. That was my issue with backups. The 1st few discs on my BenQ burner came out great, then I started having freezing during chapter/level load with subsequent burns. I switched over to the external Memorex burner and all worked out. It could be book typing for me b/c DVDinfo shows "Change" button for Memorex drive but not BenQ even though it's supported. I had to change it under ImgBurn for BenQ but don't know if that did the job. I have a Hitachi 79.
