xbox mod to be used online

I've had my xbox360 for almost 2 years now (had the RROD and fixed my MS once) and I've decided that I want to mod it and still be able to go on live.
I've read a lot and have a couple of friends that have successfully done this (for around 100$) however, I wanted to get more info on it myself (see if I can do it myself or get a cheaper price).
What I'm most worried about is the new updates that will be coming out (Nov 19 I believe).
Does anyone know of any mods that will work online and can go through Microsoft updates?
Any info, links to websites or threads that discuss things of this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I cant really help when it comes to modding your 360, however I did have mine modded by a friend of mine, he flashed the firmware, I am still able to go online and play on LIVE, I even installed the NXE update with no problems at all, the biggest thing is to make sure your backups are stealthed so that you dont get banned.

I actually think that is what my friend did ... and from what I've heard is that he had no prob going online. The thing is that its only been 2 weeks hes done it so he wants to test it out before he suggests it to me.
Have you ever had any problems with your xbox after flashing your drive ... like hardware probs, RROD or anything of that sort? If you dont mind me asking, how long have you had your 360 flashed for now?
Also, might be a silly question but does flashing your 360 void your guaranty?

You should have read the sticky, it has all the info you need.
Short answer, yes, you can still get banned even if you stealth your burned games and even if you're not playing on live, even if you're not signed in, just with that Ethernet cable attached or the wireless network connected. Whenever I play a burned game, I pull my Ethernet cable out just to be sure.
If you use legit games in a firmware patched system you can't get banned.

Sorry for the double post, cant edit my other one.
Yes, since you have to open the case and break the warranty sticker it will. If you get the RROD you may have to pay for it if they notice the missing sticker.

I have had my 360 flashed for over a year now with no hardware problems or anything, I play on live probally every other day with no problems, but yes if you flash the drive it will void your warranty. If your safe (dont play backups before they hit the stores) then you should be ok, however there is no real chance that you wont get banned.

lies, lies, and more lies. wow you cant get banned?! come one people.. any addict will tell you that there is a chance you can get banned no matter what, if that drive is flashed the is no way to avoid it. now the chances have RECENTLY been slim, but this update could include the banhammer, then you will all be crying like normal because you got banned. long story short if you cant live with yourself with the fact there is a chance, then dont do it. if you could care less, then this mod is for you. unplugging your cable wont help you either, NOTHING WILL. the only way to NOT GET BANNED, is DONT GO ON LIVE which defeats the purpose. i hope i made my point. THIS IS IN THE STICKYS!

Unplugging the cable will help because the xbox can't pass data about the game you're playing. As of now, there has been no reports of anyone being banned who has not been on live while playing a backup.
I should have made it clear though in a future update they could potentially add a method to detect flashed firmwares even if you don't use backups. The advice the poster above gave is true; If you really can't risk the ban, don't do it!

PS2Menace is right I have read this as well, I have also read reports of people who at one point had older firmware, and got banned after an update even though they currently had 1.4. It saves information about games you play, and when you play them (acheivements).
