Instead of using my vcr (ugh) to tape my favortie show - CSI - I am downloading it from emule.
Problem - how do I burn it to dvd that can be used both in my PC and new dvd player? Yes, I have read the posts and the guides - but I am now suffering from info overload and have no clue where to begin! I have a DVD-R burner. Most of my files are .mpeg.
Please help. I need to empty out my hard drive asap!
thx

How new is your DVD player? Many will now play mpeg's directly.

Brand new. Just got it at Xmas. Also have an old one - but don't expect to be able to play burned dvd's on it.
My new player says it will play "DVD/VCD/MP3 etc.

Thanks for replying!

Even though I am pretty sure my dvd player will play them, I don't know how to start burning them. Would love to start today. I have a sony Vaio FRV-35 notebook with a DVD-R burner. The notebook included sony software that apparently burns DVD's however it seems only to recognise the format used in sony digital camcorders. I also have software called "click to dvd" which appears to be worthless for my needs.
I do have some AVI files, but for now - in order to get my 'feet wet' I will start with the less complicated mpeg files.
Any suggestions out there?
Thanks a bunch

Well as an experiment just burn one of the mpeg's to a DVD blank. Just burn it as 'Data', pop it in your player and see what happens

Thanks for the info. Just tried it. My dvd player won't play it, but my dvd drive in my notebook will. That's some progress at least!
My dvd player manual states that DVD-R discs "must be made in Video DVD Mode", which I assume means that since I made mine using "data" mode, it won't play it.
I'm going to try the Sony "Click to DVD" software that came on my notebook. Will give an update as soon as I am finished.
Thanks again!

Tried the Sony "Click to DVD" software - no luck. Keeps telling me it 'encountered an error' after about 3/4 of the conversion process has been completed - then the program shuts down.

So...please advise which software I require - freeware or not - don't care. Just want something 'newbie friendly'. I'm not a complete idiot when it comes to this stuff, but I am still very much at the bottom of the learning curve!

Download the trial version of Nero 6. That should do it. It may take a while to convert your mpegs but with a little luck it should work. Try Nerovision express.
