I brought VIA VT6421A Sata Card from ebay and It came with small cd with drivers.

Can someone please tell me how to install driver for the sata card so my computer can read it. I try to install some .exe file that was in the cd under "VIA" folder but it seems to installed software but not the driver and I even download VIA V-Raid Driver Ver. 5.80C from VIAArena.com and I cannot install driver without making USB Bootable??? can someone please tell me how do i make USB bootable to install it???

I download Xtreamboother but that doesnt make my usb driver bootable. BTW I have Dell Optiplex GX280 and updated lasted BIOS driver for my motherboard.

Thanks in Advance

Are you sure your PCI SATA card is fully engaged onto the PCI slot?

What version of windows are you using? If vista, you don't need a driver, it should detect it automatically.

In the CD driver, you should have at least 2 folders, or one folder and several subfolders, post the names of each folder and its contents, or post a pic with weblink so we can see.

Yes card is fitted properly in the back. I'm using Window XP Pro. SP3

I download latest version of software from VIAArena.com
I download V.5.80C for XP below is the link
http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?Pag...80&SubCatID=117

Once I download that and unzip that folder "Windows_V-Raid_V580C" ...there is SETUP.exe file which I run and follow set, also choose V-Raid Driver Package to install....then it seems like everything installed...but at the end I got an error message saying..Driver failed to install. and when I press finish..it asks if you want to restart and I restart my computer....

any clue why that's happening?

I forgot to mention in last post...Once I restart my computer and I went in...Device Manager...there is a question mark in yellow under RAID Controller...and it says "Drivers for this device are not installed (CODE 28)"

Code 28 means that your hardware has not ben detected. This could be to faulty installation of the hardware, or the driver has not been installed properly. It is also possible that you installed the wrong driver, which is the most likely cause. Click on the yellow mark, select properties, then select either uninstall or roll back driver. I'd choose unistall, though.

Now, what would I do if I was you? here it goes:
If you're on Windows XP
1. With your PC turned off, remove the PCI Sata card. Turn PC on and create a new system restore point. The turn your PC off.

2. With the PC off, re-insert PCI sata card making sure it is fully engaged. I would also try to move it to another available PCI slot.
2. Turn PC on, and if your Sata card is fully engaged, you should get a warning sign in your taskbar saying "new hardware detected" and it should prompt you to driver installation. This message should give at least the peace of mind that the card was properly installed.
Click cancel and go to step 3
3. Browse around your CD disk driver (USE YOUR CD ALWAYS!), and install any other exe file that looks or sounds like a driver that you have not installed before. In this case, we will use an "exclusion method", meaning install each file that looks or sounds like a driver .EXE file ONE AT THE TIME, 'til you find the proper driver. Remember, one at the time. If the driver has been properly installed, you should get a message saying that your new hardware is ready for use.
I believe that I have your same Sata Card in my PC, and I remember also having trouble finding the driver...yes it is tricky!. Check the posts later, I'll try to look at my CD driver and see if I can give you more insight. In the meantime, try what's above.

Hey, I found my CD driver, hopefully it the same as yours.
Browse on your CD disk driver and click on folder VT624X&6419, then click on the subfolder "Windows" then Click on the Setup.exe file inside. You still need to make sure that your PCI Sata card is installed properly, and you need to uninstall or rollback any previous drivers...see my previous post.

Good luck!

rotf, you create a restore point to un-plug & plug a pci card? lol, listen guy if its not detecting your pci card try moving it to a different slot, if al else fails you got a bad card, but i would say if its not detecting it it would be safe to say to try a different slot, however if it is showing a code 28 as a raid card, it obviously knows its there. try the driver on the cd under the windows folder like the other guy said.
