I've been holding off doing the TP hack cos I didn't have a copy of TP and it didn't seem to be losing its price on ebay.
Then recently I read about World of Goo on wiiware, got excited and rushed onto the Shop Channel to download it. I'd never bought any wiiware before and wasn't aware I'd need to update to use it, but it said I had to so I did.
Then - Wham! Not only could I not download World of Goo cos its only available in US, but I almost immediately find out the latest update prevents you from running the TP hack and installing the homebrew channel.
So am I screwed? Can I downgrade? Will I be able to install the homebrew channel?
Just as the moment I've been waiting for, the explosion of the softmod scene, hits, have I blown it?
Well, the twilight hack does still work with the newest firmware, but you cant install any homebrew unless you have the custom IOS firmware installed. Unfortunately there's currently no way to install custom IOS on an unmodded wii.
So for the time being you're stuck unless you get a modchip.
I won't pretend to understand exactly what you mean. If the TP hack still works, is there anything I can do with it?
Surely there's a work around gonna be worked on. Otherwise all new Wii's (which will presumably get updated) won't be able to run homebrew, and surely the homebrew scene won't settle for that?
The custom IOS firmware is something that you can install to allow the wii's DVD drive to do things that it normally wouldnt. In this case it lets homebrew continue to work. The newest update blocks the installation of most homebrew as well as IOS firmwares. There is a workaround found here http://wiinewz.com/forums/nintendo-news/...23d-update.html but it requires a modchipped wii.
The most recent update blocks the downgrader as well. It blocks any homebrew that tries to access the firmware or system memory unless you have the custom IOS installed.
