ok i'm real new to this downgrading thing but have done some research on it. my psp has v. 2.81. I want to do a few things, so can all you experts out there please help me.

I want to play homebrew games
put customs spps and ultilites
still be able to get online
have music visualizations
play my own music while playing game
be able to still have wma's enable
be able to play all umd games.

If anyone has any sugestionabout additioals things that may be cool to have let me no. I just want to really have a custom psp, like you can see on youtube.

is 1.5 good for all the things Iwant to do. If so I have gta LCS and it says update to 2.0 (even though I have 2.81) would that work to start my downgrade process to 1.5 if I went from 2.81 to 2.0 o 1.5?

Hello mopedus-First off, welcome to the forums.

It sounds like you are headed in the right direction, and it just so happens that you have the tools already (GTA:LCS)to get you where you need to go.

You will find a detailed guide for downgrading that psp of yours right HERE

Scroll to the part where it says 'I would like to downgrade a...' and then click the "show" button under '~2.81-3.03 Any Motherboard'

Doing this will downgrade your psp to 1.50 firmware which is necessary to run homebrew, unsigned code, etc.

From there you will want to install your custom firmware once the downgrade to 1.50 is done. The most recent custom firmware version is at 5.00M33-3, however you will need to install at least 3.52M33-4 prior to installing 5.00M33-3-You cannot just go from 1.50 to 5.00M33-3...There are a few steps involved which are outlined in the guide found HERE

Once you have your psp running 3.52M33-4 its just a matter of grabbing the updates from www.dark-alex.org and installing them to your psp. There you will find the latest version of custom firmware as well as popsloader (used for playing PS1 games and the like-nice to have), and the 1.50 kernel add-on for homebrew (must have for homebrew and emulators)
It is recommended that you follow the directions carefully from the guides above as well as the 'readme' files from the firmware updates. Failure to do so can cause problems with your psp (ie: brick)
