I have a psp slim ta-85 with 3.90M33 that freezes at the XMB menu everytime you turn it on. Only thing that works is the volume buttons. This psp is for a mate I work withs son. I installed 3.90M33 on this psp with my Pandora batt and MM stick about eight months ago for him and everything worked flawlessly. So I told him I would reinstall it and then upgrade to 4.01M33 so he would be able to play the newer games. But everytime I reinstall 3.90M33 it still freezes. I installed 3.90OFW and everything works on official firmware but not with custom firmware. I know my pan battery works so Im confused here. My mate said his son was playing madden09 that he got for his birthday and then it froze so im thinking that his son might have upgraded to OFW from CFW and that did something to it but I dont know. Im not sure if an update even comes with the madden09 game or not its just a guess but it shouldnt matter anyway cause I got a Pan batt and MM stick right? Its just weird that it worked before and now all of a sudden it just froze and keeps freezing everytime I reinstall 3.90M33. Anyone got any ideas cause im stuck. Thanks
That occurred to one of my PSP's. Enter the recovery menu, click on Advanced, then click on "Format flash1 and reset settings". This will erase previous configurations for example, the clock, router config, ECT. The files within that partition will be regenerated once you boot the PSP, and this should fix the XMB.
I recreated my MM stick to UPMS 5.0 with DC7 upgraded my phat psp with and it worked flawlessly but when I upgrade the slim to 4.01M33 it still froze. I formatted flash 1 and reset the settings and it still froze. Its weird all the buttons work when I reinstall the official firmware but when i install custom firmware none of the buttons work except the volume buttons. ???? Ive installed custom firmware 3.90M33 on this psp slim about 8 months back and everything worked. It just doesnt make sense. This is the first problem ive ever had with pandora + MMs not working correctly
Heres somethimg different. I reinstalled 4.01 official and was scrolling around, when i selected Nickname. The characters kept switching back and forth on there own, like the way they would if you were to hold down the select button. Im wondering if this psp is just broken and thats why CFW doesnt work. Anyone want to try and install 4.01M33 (DC7) on a slim ta-85v1 while holding the select button and see if it freezes at XMB? Id test it if I had a working slim but the slim I have the select button is always depressed. I guess ill have to tell my mate that in order to have CFW on his psp hes going to have to get it fixed or buy another one.
I formatted flash 1 like you said but when i turn the psp on the green light appears but nothing comes on just black screen. i think this psp is broken but if you guys keep giving me ideas ill try them. thanks everyone for your ideas
I had a similar problem. One of my smaller brothers sucked on the psp and got the bottom buttons all wet. The only bottom buttons that worked were the volume buttons. I put cfw 4.01m33 and the directional buttons stopped working too. It was like the xmb was frozen but it really didn't move because the direction buttons stopped working.I put ofw 4.01 and all the buttons except the volume worked like before. I got a menu bar from ebay and replaced it. Everything works fine now. Custom or Official firmware are okay. I think you will need to replace the bottom buttons aka the menu bar. They are only like $2 plus $3 for shipping.
Alright its working now!!! That was it, VSH was on an endless loop Thanks alot. The start, select and home buttons still dont work they are broken so I will tell my mate that he needs to buy a new circuit ribbon. Thanks everyone for your help
